Slaughterhouse Gulch - April 7

3 of us met up at THE FORT restaurant this morning and drove up to SHG.

I was certainly the smallest of the 3, and winches were a must have today.

Here are the 3 of us at the bottom of STUMP HILL.
Despite all of the signage saying not to, people still find it necessary to attempt climbing it.

WoW, my jeep looks really small.............

This is me getting very friendly with a tree. I went sideways on the trail, and my winch helped prevent any damage to the jeep or the tree
THis pic is after my winching away from it. prior to this pic, my door was pinned against it.

This is Brian (potter) getting friendly with the same tree

It's a good thing some people came up behind us and were nice enough to help him out.

This is Carl getting stuck. He made it up to the cattle grate on his first attempt, but when he came back to give me a hand, he SUNK. Then he winched forward, then he SUNK again. Winches are our friends

It was strange, on his first attempt, he was able to ski the top of the drift to the top. But on his second attempt, I think he had weakened the snow, just enough, that he sank in. It was weird to drive on, but you roll, roll, roll, then PLOP deep into the snow.

Me and Brian, after lots of Winching, at the Cattle Grate.
We decided it was best to turn around, since Brian was Winchless.
BUt it did look clear for part of the way. I am just not sure for how long.
2 hours of winching was incentive enough to turn around.

I didn't get a pic, but the other side of the loop (on the way to the pits) looked pretty hairy. Here are some poser pics.............

One crack in my front pass flare from a hard right line attempt where the snow decided to put me a bit farther right than planned. One dented in rear driver's side corner where a tail light took the hit of a tree (can't believe the tail light didn't smash to bits). My first time wheeling in CO, and m GF's first time wheeling ever. And it was great. An fun day, with some awesome people. Craig, thanks for taking the iniative and talking me into going. Appreciate the hookup on that tow mount. Carl, good seeing you again and glad you came out for the run. We woulda been in trouble without that beast of a rig you have Also, big thanks to the traildamage group that came up behind us and got my 4lo working PLUS helped drag me out of that drift. That was awesome.

Here are some pics I got uploaded.

After breaking through the crust we tore the snow up pretty good. Be prepared to do some/alot of digging and winching to the top. At least until it melts some more up there.

When we got stuck up the one hill, there were two groups that came up behind us. One was the trail damage group, and another was two guys in a tj/zj. Both groups ended up turning around behind us after watching our attempts up the hill. When we finally got turned around we just followed their tracks back down and around. There was maybe 1-2 inches on the ground on the trail going around which all looked fresh. So it was just a normal bumpy drive to get there, and all three groups were then there. If it was previously impassable it's now completey melted in comparison. After playing in the pits for awhile, all three groups tried to continue up the trail that goes past the pits, with the traildamage group leading. We got a couple hundred yards up the trail though and they stopped and gave us the "go back" hand signals. So I think the trail furthur up past the pits is still impassable. I believe that's actually a different trail tat starts where SH ends though??
