    Unhappy USA 6x6 Double Beadlock Wheels PICS ADDED

    I placed an order for some pretty basic wheels (no custom center, no rock ring, no powdercoat) on 4/4/2007. During the order process I confirmed that the wheels would be delivered by 5/25/2007 so I could make a planned wheeling trip over the Memorial Day weekend. I called again on 5/10/2007 to make sure everything was in place and was told that the wheels were on "ready to go out". By, 5/22/2007 I had not heard anything else and had not received my wheels. I called them again, and after a lengthy (1 hr) somewhat heated conversation, Daniel agreed to ship my wheels via truck freight ensuring they would arrive no later than 5/25/2007. They did arrive as agreed upon. However, I was not pleased with the condition of the wheels. Below is the email I sent to Daniel this morning detailing why I was not pleased. If he responds, I will post his reply here as well.

    "Daniel-
    I just wanted to drop you a line and provide some feedback to you on my
    experience with your customer service and product. We spoke at length
    last week regarding the shipping of my wheels, and I appreciate your
    patience and the time out of your day. The wheels arrived on Friday
    afternoon as we had agreed to. Thank you for making the effort to make
    that happen; I know it is not what you had planned on doing.

    However, I was a little disappointed when I had the opportunity to look
    the wheels over in detail.
    - One of the holes where the bolts connect the two rim pieces together
    was not drilled to the proper size. It appeared as though during the
    manufacure process that you first drill a pilot hole and then do a final
    drill to the proper diameter. It was an easy enough fix for me to drill
    out the hole to the proper size, but it was just an extra step I was not
    expecting.

    - When I placed my order I originally asked for 5" backspacing. During
    our conversation you mentioned that you could do 5.25" backspacing and
    still clear my calipers. When I mounted the wheels on my Jeep, the
    wheels cleared the calipers as you stated, but they did not clear the
    bolt that holds the spring tensioner in place on the bottom of the
    caliper (HP HD D44). The wheel seated properly onto the hub, but the
    wheel would not spin due to the friction created between the bolt head
    and the back of the wheel. This friction created one gouge per wheel
    from when I tried to spin the front wheels. Again, it was easily
    remedied by replacing the bolts with a smaller headed allen bolt. But, I
    had to make a trip to the hardware store for those the next morning.

    - I was amazed to find that the wheels had lots of surface rust on them
    when they arrived. I can provide emailed digital pictures if you'd like.
    I fully expected the wheels to be primed when they were delivered. I
    thought this was the case because on your webpage in the cost esitmator
    the choices are powdercoated or primed. I did not choose powdercoating,
    so I assumed they would be primed. This was not confirmed during the
    order process, so maybe this was a miscommunication. Again, I was able
    to solve the problem, but it took approximately 6 hours of prep and
    paint time before I could mount the tires on the rims. Had the wheels
    been primed like I expected, it would have only taken a couple of hours
    before I had the tires mounted on the Jeep on your wheels.

    - One of the PVC inserts arrived in a football shape. I don't know if
    this was caused during the shipping process, or if it was shipped this
    way. But, as I am sure you know, installing the second piece of the
    wheel over a football shaped insert is a bit of a challenge. This one
    wheel took over an hour to assemble because of the mis-shaped insert.
    The odd shape made it very difficult to get the second piece of the
    wheel and the tire aligned with the first piece of the wheel and the
    insert.

    Having said all of that, I wheeled these wheels on Sunday and Monday.
    They performed as advertised. Three of the wheels have a slow air leak
    in them (approximately 1-2psi per day), but I am sure that is due, at
    least in part, to some kind of installation/assembly issue on my end. I
    guess the bottom line is: I am satisfied, but overly so, with the final
    product, but I am not pleased with the various hurdles I had to overcome
    to get there. As you know, there are few choices out there for an
    internal beadlock wheel. I feel your product is a better design than the
    others out there, hence the reason I placed my order with you. But, I
    think you could improve delivery of your products and your customer
    service through clear communication with your customers after the order
    has been placed, improved quality control in the manufacturing process,
    and appropriate packaging of the pieces, especially the inserts, to
    ensure they are not damaged/mis-shaped when they arrive.

    My intent in this message is to offer my perceptions and opinions to you
    to help you improve your buisness. I would like to the "small-guy"
    buisnesses to succeed because I think they have the ability to fill niche
    needs with a quality product at a reasonable price with their attention
    to detail, innovation, and passion for thier product.

    I look forward to hearing a response from you.

    unfortunately this is par for the course with usa6x6. There are pages and pages of people with issues over on pirate4x4.

    That sucks man.. I bought my rims from them too, they looked nothing like the shape of yours!! The 2 things that did happen with me, my rock rings "not welded on", and they forgot to send me the plastic spacers for inside the wheels.... I had to weld my spacers on and call them 2 or 3 times before I could get the spacers sent to me.. What can you do?? I have thought about it alot and I dont think I will be doing any purchasing from them again!!

    Our delivery time does suck.
    We have more customers than we can handle.
    The football shaped center will brace itself out with
    assembly. One of the holes drilled wrong hmmm . Shipping
    guy missed that..
    Rust. Maybe they got out in the rain? were the boxes wet
    at all?

    Primer or raw is standard based on request, we dont even
    charge for primer..."

    I guess he doesn't much care about my impressions. I definitely would recommend going elsewhere with your money if you are looking for double beadlocks.

    Wow. I'm glad that you have more patience than I. Someone would have recieved a MAJOR ass chewing about the quality of those wheels.

    If you have more business than you can handle, let the customer know upfront that there is NO guaranteed ship date, but will ship as soon as possible [within reason].

    Secondly, who in the hell would ship some rusty wheels like that as new? Atleast clean them with a freakin' wire wheel [15 min. max for all four wheels].

    And finally that is some $hitty customer service - specifically the response he sent you.

    Thanks for sharing, for that is another company that will not get my business...

    Get a load of this latest correspondance....
    My response to his response....

    "The rusted wheels were shipped via freight on a
    pallet wrapped in plastic. There were no boxes to
    look at for moisture damage. However, the pallet,
    plastic, and everything else appeared to be very
    dry and have no indications of rain. The truck
    that delivered them was an enclosed trailer, no
    chance for rain there."

    And his response to that....

    "So they got rusty here and that is really unnaceptable...
    If you would like a discount on another set or some
    rockwell parts I would be happy to make up for your time. -
    Daniel"

    Like I am really going to do anymore buisiness with him for anything

    Not to bust your balls there dwag, but did you even bother to check out USA6x6 before you spent some serious $$ with them??

    I mean a quick Google of usa6x6 returned numerous cases of people who got shafted out of parts, thousands of dollars and had USA6x6 make all kinds of promises, sent customers the totally wrong rims and what not. There are numerous stories of people waiting for months for parts after they had paid in full for them. They are banned from Pirate4x4 several other websites, have an unsatisfactory rating with the BBB. And pretty much this is how they run there business.

    So in my option you played with fire and got burned.
    yea, that would be great.

    I did do some research, but I don't use Pirate anymore. I spoke to one other user of their wheels and he mentioned that he had to wait a while for his rims, but that he was otherwise satisfied. I had hoped to find some more info on them, but didn't think to use any of the methods you just described. Now I have posted this, so people here will know at least.

    He did give me a refund for the priming time, all of $80....

    Oh well.

    Question

    6X6 has had a bad name for a long time and you (dptdawg) are just another person they have pissed off. They could care less because new people come into the hobby every day and keep them in Biz.

    If anything you need to look up and search the next time you look for parts and also just ask the question on here or any of the many other forums.

    I am in sales and people still do not get the ?You Get what you pay for? When you look at it they were cheaper(?) but now you know why. I am not saying that deals cannot be found on stuff but that in most cases you get the shaft when you go cheaper.

    Why do you keep doing this? By now you should have your Sh!t together and be keeping up with orders and keeping up on customer service. You could make a LOT more money if you would.

    Unfortunately, I've had similar dealings with them. They were an easy choice for the latest stage in my build-up of my H1 wheels. But, based on my prior experience with them, I went through many internet searches to find other places that could build what I wanted. Ballistic Fabrication, and Copperhead Fabrication both were able to fill my needs in a timely manner.

    Other Options

    When I was looking for beadlocks last spring I strongly considered USA 6x6 due to price. The only option I found was Stazworks and although they are really popular on PBB, severl people pm-d and said they weren't happy, and they admit to really long order times.

    I finally decided to go single beadlock and went with Allieds Rock Crusher (I think, the steel ones) and have been very happy. Pricing was better then Staz works, and I am lot more confident in pressed centers then flat.

    Its unfortunate, the concept is great and Hutchisons are very expensive, but I couldn't deal with potential problems. Allied custom wheels showed up as per the original design, powder coated and ready to install.

    i don't get how you are "satisfied" with you leaky rusty beadlocks??? I'd have been looking for a full refund.

    I thought I would add the most recent problems with these wheels.

    I discovered recently that one of the plastic inserts that sandwiches the tire beads against the wheel rims broke. This caused an absolutely horrible death wobble due to the horribly out of balance wheel with this big piece of plastic floating around inside the tire.

    I went to USA 6x6's webpage and could not find any mention of their double beadlock wheels. So, I contacted USA 6x6 via email and asked them about buying a new plastic insert. I was told that they no longer make these wheels and have none of the inserts. They did not answer my question about where I might be able to find a replacement insert.

    So, now I have one double beadlock wheel that does not lock the beads because the insert is broke. I have called around a few places and searched the internet a little and kind not find anyting to replace the broken plastic insert except the Stauns or new wheels.

    I guess the good news is that no one will be screwed by USA 6x6 wheels anytime soon...

    What diameter is the plastic insert? 20"? Staz in WI has made custom plastics for me in the past (thrown 20" pipe on the lathe, really).

    Check Pirate for current USA6x6 news. The last I heard was that Daniel had closed up shop. Seriously.

    So your insert did something like this



    Funny thing is, this happened a few times to me, and Daniel SWORE i was the first person to EVER have this problem To fix it,i just used some 1/8" Steel plate and heavier screws, problem solved!! Later Daniel ended up sending me their new light weight poly inserts, and those were WAY easier to work with.

    Mine are the poly inserts.

    I just talked with Staz, and once I get him some accurate measurements he can build what I need to replace the broken insert. I think I will have a spare insert made as well; just to have on hand.

    I talked to him about his wheels, and I don't know why I didn't know about them when I bought the USA 6x6 wheels. It seems his product and customer service are much better all the way around.

    one other option is to source a set of the military magnesium lock inserts and cut off the run flat part. these are WAY stronger than the plastic pieces. I ran a set of 6x6 wheels on a set of 42s and did this very trick. The plastic locks supplied by Daniel did not last one trip to Tellico. I found some magnesium inserts on ebay for cheap, cut off the run flats and installed those. Except for the wheels having a decent amount of run-out because of daniel's shoddy build quality, they are still on a vehicle in FL running the mud holes around the state. The buyer wasn't too concerned about the runout so he was happy.
