I've run that trail dozens of times, nothing spooky on it. Hell, my 15 yr old son drove the whole trail on Sunday.
Murray's Toys: 76 FJ40, 00 Toyota MR2, 13 Triumph Tiger 800XC, 07 KTM 450EXC, 05 Suzuki SV1000S, 12 Yeti SB66c, too many skis to list...
I got your Jeep thing....now it burns when I pee

July 25th, 2006, 03:58 PM #43x3. That spot sucks when one member of your group has a very unpredictable suspension that seems to bind and unload even on flat stuff.

July 25th, 2006, 08:49 PM #47Ahhh, you must not have come down through Georgetown then. There is a shelf road that at any given time has a slide across it. That makes for a nice off camber stretch that is commonly very narrow. There are no trees for 1/2 mile across and almost 500' down. Estimating the distance...... It's a nice view down to I-70 and Georgetown.

I'm not a shelf road person, but Antero was fairly tame compared to Spring Creek on some of the trips I've been on.Yeah, whatever.
I eat fish to assert my dominance over them. No Olive ever got all up in my grill and disrespected me.

To me cliffhanger is the worst feeling because it's less than 3' to a very very long freefall.

Black Bear doesn't bug me. Antero is a cake walk.
Honestly, one of the only roads that's ever made me really pucker was at the bottom of Tomichi. No pics tho, and I think if you saw a pic you'd wonder what all the fuss was aboutI'm praying for tidal waves

I knew that section wasn't that off camber, and there was something wronge with the ridge line..... We had a CAT up there about 3 years ago fixing the road, he would have cut that part down if it were real.

How can Rollins Pass be left off

Looking down from one of the trussel bridges:

They should totally reopen the trussels, they are safe

I would have to say the worst pucker factor for me was near the top of Pearl pass covered in snow on creasted butte side. Leaning toward the downhill side. With at least a thousand feet of nothing. no trees. if you rolled you would roll forever.

This probably doesn't look that bad, but 5 ATVs came around the corner, and it was kind of hard for them to get around me without falling off the side of the mountain. This is in Rampart Range."Do it stock...you get more cool points that way!"

From the East: Yeah walk around/over the tunnel and then take the upper road and you'll find the trussels.
From the West: Just drive up to Corona Townsite and you can see the trussels from there/walk to them.

The wife, kids and I took a did a bunch of trails over 4 days time a couple of years ago. We were alone no other Jeeps or such.
Anyway we started up what I beleive to have been Mosquito Pass we made it up about a half of a mile and my wife was about to have a heart attack, she was really scared. So I have her get out and walk up a little to see if it was going to get better or worse she walked up maybe another quarter of a mile and turned around shaking her head no way.
I had to back down the darn thing with two little kids in the back, with the Jeep hugging the drivers side against the mountain, seemed like it took me an hour.
So we get to the bottom of the trail sitting there by an old mine and she is chewing me out. I show here the print out -
"This fairly easy rocky road takes you over 13,000 feet in your vehicle, which is something all offroaders should experience in Colorado. It used to be a stagecoach road, the easiest way from Denver to Leadville. You also get to see a lot of well-preserved mills and mines either right on the trail or very close to the trail.
The trail itself is not particularly difficult though it could be difficult if you ran across other vehicles going the opposite direction. A good portion of the trail is a little too narrow for passing, though the shelf road is fairly wide for one 4x4 vehicle.
The trail is usually run west to Leadville though it could be run in the other direction as well." from Trail Damage.com
Then a full size Ford 1 ton PU pulls up talks to us a few minutes and we told him what happened. He states that he has never tryed it from the east side heading west. He then heads up and we head down, I look back 5 or 10 minutes later and he is gone no where to be seen, he had to have just driven over the pass and not slowly, talk about putting you in your place.
Experience is everything, and really want to try that one again, wonder if the wife will let me...

Its not hard wheeling but the views are amazing and there is a large amount of trails up there.

Last fall when I ran Mosquito from the Leadville side, a Subaru Outback followed me up and over. I kept saying, "There is no way he'll make it around this spot", and sure as sh!t, here he came.
Talked to him a bit once we made it to the top, and he said no problems.
Mosqutio is not that difficult, and the switchbacks are wide along with the road width. It is high up, but that is about it.
Nice scenery of the Collegiate Peaks to the West, and of South Park to the East. Cool mines and shafts too.
