Panamint Valley - Isham Canyon *VIDEO*

What an AMAZING area!! A few hours north of LA, and the next valley over from Death Valley. Driving through, you would never think there was so much history and neat things to see in one small area. At one time, it was a booming mining community....most of what remains today is just the ruins and relics of the past. But man oh man, what an awesome area!

We headed up on a friday afternoon, pulling in at around 4 PM and went for a quick hike just outside of Panamint Springs and found the "water falls" of Panamint Springs. It goes from a dry, desolate desert enviroment:

    To this:

Lush, green and just stunning! If i hadnt of walked a mile back in that canyon, id swear i was somewhere in Hawaii! The large water fall was simply breath taking...you could hear it off in the distance for quite a ways, but couldnt see it till you rounded a large bend but once you did, it was an AWESOME sight. After splashin around in the water for a little while, we headed back and setup camp(lol, more like kicked on the AC's in the motorhome, cracked open the beer and fired up the BBQ! ).

Saturday was a LONG day of wheelin...we rolled out of camp at about 8 AM and didnt get back till well after 9 PM....we did Isham Canyon and also an un-named one that we now call Pinion Eater due to two busted ring/pinions. Lots of carnage that day....the two destroyed R/P's, two bent driveshafts, few broken marker and tail lights and a good bid of scrapes, dings, dents and other assorted carnage...all between 3 rigs! WAY fun run though!! I think ive sold myself on getting a Yota and making a crawler out of it....all 3 of them had marlin cralwer setups in them and having the 100-200+:1 crawl ratio was simply amazing. No slipping the clutch at all....just let it out, keep your foot off of it and let the engine do all the work. Now....do if i can just make up my mind....truck or 4-runner??

We also headed up to briggs camp which is a couple cabins that are stashed away, WAY up in the hills in a very secluded valley. They are free to stay in for up to 7 days at a time...they both have running water, electricity, heaters, patios, beds, stoves, sinks and are very nice places for being maintained kinda by everyone and being in the freakin middle of nowhere! Very rustic and simply amazing! My battery died by that point so i didnt get any pics of it, but some of the others we were with did so when i get em, ill post em up too.

Anywho....on to the video! The video was shot in widescreen and YouTube decided they like the 4:3 format better so it looks kinda funny and their qualiy SUCKS...but i think youll get the idea!

My dads got a REALLY good book on the panamint valley that talks about all the history of the area and about all the mining(you GOTTA check out the defence mines and briggs camp....AMAZING!) and wheelin in the area...ill get the name of it and forward it off to you. If you make it into panamint springs, check out the little bar/restraunt there....not much to see and their prices for food are INSANE but theyve got a whole bunch of books and maps for sale on the area.

It wasnt too terrably bad when we were out there last weekend...was probably in the upper 90s in the day and the 70s or so at night, but its going to be getting to the point here to where its gonna be too hot do be doing any serious wheelin without being totally miserable. Its a spring and fall area for sure.

The christian 4 wheelers group 4x4him.org is gonna be doing a HUGE event there in either the fall this year or early spring of next year....you should definetly check it out. We did calico with them a couple years ago...bunch of really great people and had a total blast!
