Our club just got back from Montrose and I have to say that is some of the best wheeling around, IMO. We did Cactus 1 and Cactus 2 the first day. Cactus 1 is a nice warm up for Cactus 2. Once on Cactus two there is no letting up its all up hill and big rocksand just a little ways into Cactus 2 Chubby was leaking power steering fluid out of his NEW PSC gear box. That was the start of all of his problems. Next he blew his rear output shaft on his Dana 300. At that point we just wanted to get him out and we only had maybe a quarter of a mile left. Then he blew his front ring and pinion, so all he had left to move him was a Warn 9500. Let me tell you we worked that winch and it paid for its self that day! The second day we started out on Die Trying and right off the bat we had a Jeep blow a fuel pump. So while he ran back to town to get another one the rest of us powered on and ran the trial. Once we looped back around he was almost ready to run the trail so we let him lead. He lead for about 100 yards and blew an outer stub shaft and hub. So we turned him around and one other member followed him out. On the way out the two that where headed back out the other guy blew an outer stub shaft on his Bronco. The rest of us worked our way out again through the end of trail which seemed harder the second time around? Jocko was climbing a nice line when his rear U-joint blew on his drive shaft. Luckily we had another one in the group and got him back up and running and finished the trail. Well on the finial and last day we tried to fix Bronc?s Bronco because when he blew the stub shaft he also mushroomed out the spindle and we could not locate one in town. After that some of us called it good and didn't want to test there luck and headed home. The few members that stayed behind went and ran Calamity and had a blast. It is a short trail with a good exit. The first guy did not make it but the other two found a good line and drove it on out and no breakage that day
So all in all we had a great time down in Montrose.
Here is a link to a 7 minute clip of about 150 photos. I had to downsize them a bit due to bandwidth but it should give you a good idea of what the trials are like down there.
