Wow, that's one way to be humbled

Today I felt on top of the world. Was still reveling from yesterday's Bronco victory. Things at work went so smoothly and people all seemed to be in great moods. Then just as I was finishing up in the shop my phone rang. My father called to info me that my Grandfather passed away late this afternoon. He was the man that people say I took after the most. And they aren't wrong. He was a thick headed and stubborn man but was a master of metal and machinery. I still wish I learned more from that man. He will be missed.

My grandfather died 8 days ago. Major influence in my life. Sounds like you had something special with him. There probably are few words that can help, but know he is on to a better place.

My condolences on your loss. Hope you and yours are holding up alright.

I thought I was doing ok until I finally spoke to my mother. Broke my heart knowing I couldn't take any of her pain away. She was probably the closest to him and took care of him the most the past few years until her own health started going. Damn, that was rough.

My condolences for your loss. I lost my grandfather a few years back, and it was definitely the hardest loss to endure so far, in my life.

My condolences to you and yours. It is always hard to lose those you care about and trying to comfort those that are hurting can be really hard.

I lost my Grandparents when I was very young. I knew them, but didnt really KNOW them. It sounds like you really got to know your Grandfather, hold those special memories close. I am sorry for your loss.

So sorry to hear about this. I know you really cared about him and from your stories you told I would say you definitely took after him in many ways. Please let me know if I can do anything to help in your time of need.

    Thanks everyone.

My cousin had this posted on her FB page this morning. Thought it was very fitting:

    Goodbye Grandpa Allen

Thank you for teaching us grandchildren the value and pride in a hard days work,
the importance of free thinking and innovation,
    the art of true stubbornness,
to never skip cocktail hour and to always eat dessert, even when they tell you not to.

Your 96 years here were spent well, now enjoy all the creativity and peacefulness that eternity has to offer.

    Love you

Sorry for your loss Aaron. I lost my Grandma a little over 4 years ago & still get dust in my eyes. I wish she could have known my wife & kids but my oldest was only 3 months old. I am fortunate to still have 3 of my 4 grandparents & they all know my wife & kids but miss seeing her or being able to talk to her
