Congrats! I hope the new carb works well for you but i think i still would have gone fuel injection just for milage and altitude change. I do like the clean old truck though.

Save that Holley! You may find a use for it (or a buyer) later.
Courage is knowing it might hurt, and doing it anyway.

How much mileage improvement would there be?

With a 460? Little to none, most likely. You'll still pass anything on the road but a gas station.

The main benefit of FI will be driveability - cold starts and dealing with changes in altitude.

No way to guess but it would probably be significant. Driveability, cold starts, etc would also be greatly improved.

Wowzers. We posted basically the same thing at the same time. The only difference is although i agree that a 460 is never going to get great fuel mileage, unless he is really good at tuning a carb, i do think he would see improvements with FI.

I had an 85 (carb) and a 96 (EFI) and both were 10-12mpg. Loved driving in the hills with the 96 on cruise - never could tell they were there.

Never done it before.. but looking forward to learning how to work on carbs and tune them!

Fortunately I’ve got an “old man car” to DD, so I can play with the truck

Your new carb is a "new & improved" Carter AFB from the '60's. Time tested design that works well. I bet there are even videos that show you how to tune it.

The Ducati 848 Evo arrived today ...

Somehow, a very clean 1997 Honda CR250R also found its way into the Garage. That is a LOT of bike. I absolutely don't need it, but always wanted one when I was much younger and landed a pretty good deal on it. I will have to start sending some of these elsewhere, although it may not happen until Spring. I could easily see that 250 finding a new home in the spring/summer as well when my short attention span shows up...

Lol. That is an awful lot of bike. That bike is exactly why I don’t ride moto.

It learned me a long time ago that it was too much bike for me as a beginner…. So I just stayed away.
