I need some sort of fuel tank/cell for my Reo project. It is a 48 REO Speedwagon on a mid 80s chevy 1 ton chasis. I could do a blazer style tank in the back between the frames, but I am afraid I will poke a hole in it as this is going to spend a lot of time in the woods.

Any thoughts on where to start. I hit the google machine, and got lots of possible options, but Just too much to filter through today. I would like something that I can fill form a filler neck in the side of the flat bed that I am putting on.
Many of the 70's Ford aft-axle tanks were actually held in place by a skid plate with the top of the tank pressed against the straps between crossmembers. You could also build such a skid plate for the Blazer tank. Both of those solutions will give you 30+ gallons and not hang down too far for your offroading. For even more capacity, I'd suggest a 2009+ Dodge 4500/5500 aft axle tank at 50+ gallons. Same method of attachment and I haven't yet poked a hole in mine at work - although not for lack of trying.

All of these fill at the top of the tank from the driver's side fender area.
Courage is knowing it might hurt, and doing it anyway.
    Stupidity is the same.
And that’s why life is hard.

I had a skidplate for my blazer tank when I had it... Unfortunately I let that go with the rig. I'll look into the other's. I was thinking a 20 gallon that I could mount behind the cab between the frame rails. But that is proving to be more difficult to find than I had originally thought. Maybe I will wait until I get the bed modified and mounted to worry about the tank.

A custom tank build for the exact space would be sweet. Also fairly pricey if you aren't going to do it yourself. As a cheaper option, you might check out the different fuel cells that are off the shelf. Summit Racing has had a decent collection in the past.

An late 80's- early 90's F150 tank in flat and almost square. It fits between the rear frame rails of Toyota mini trucks and 4Runners. 19 gallon capacity. They are steel and easy to modify if needed, and can be found new for fairly inexpensive.

Sand tarrs are on the yammerhammer and its loaded in the trailer so i did finally make some progress on getting ready this eve. The cooler, only 93° temps helped with motivation.

Crikey, imagine how wound up I would be if I had to hear about all the BS my kids were learning in public school, you think I'm an asshole now, you don't even know.

At the risk of interjecting politics into the fringe, I am part of a group working to get a school voucher program passed in CO. I hope that when the time is right you will take an interest in learning about it and possibly even support it.
