Been listening to the radio the past few days. Have to say I really haven't been missing much the past few years by not tuning in. I have been highly disappointed.

I've tried to watch a program on TV recently called best songs of the 00's, or something. If those are the best that decade put out, as far as "pop" music is concerned, I haven't missed a thing not listening to the radio.

You are joking right? Seriously? Clear Channel destroyed that station long ago.

To each their own I guess.

EDIT: I guess it is better than some out there though...

Listening to Opeth right now. Picked this song for teh yoo-toob because it shows, in one song, how diverse the group can be. Mellow, loud, "beautiful", raging...

LOL. You'd have loved to have been stuck listening to an original band I was in some years ago.

    Shortest song=14 minutes
    Longest song=45 minutes

Oh god, a jam band... Yes, I would have shot myself in the head, after I took a few with me

Been listening to my good ole mp.3's this morning since I have been in the office for once this week. Old Beastie Boys have been putting a smile on my face. I am totally digging on their Aglio e Olio album lately. Short, sweet, and to the point.

Nope, not a jam band, in the sense that I certainly wouldn't call Rush a jam band. To me, a jam band has looonnnggg middle parts that are often improvised, but could be shortened easily to fit on the radio by taking the middle part out. Rush (prog rock) has many parts that change the texture of the song. The song could actually be broken into 2, 3, 4 or more songs in a way.

That's what we did. Every measure of every song was written, and played the same each gig. We were much like Rush, Yes, ELP, but even more so (as far as many, many changes). Solos, fills, etc would be different, but the Song Remains the Same.

Never understood why you just wouldn't make 2, 3, 4, or more songs then?

Well, you could ask Beethoven (were he still alive) why he had so many passages in one song.

But I don't get why you, who say you have ADD in long songs, wouldn't like a song changing time signatures, chord progressions, etc.? Seems like you'd like songs that change it up.

It is prolly more Geddy Lees voice than anything else. Actually the only classic rock I know Aaron likes would be Hendrix.

Right now it's Swinging Utters new album again in the headphones. I need some new tunes.

And I totally get how his voice could grate on someone's nerves. I'm listening to Tool right now, and I could see how someone could hate on his voice, too.

But it doesn't take away from the fact that Rush and Tool f@ckin' rock it!!!!

Listening to Rush is like listening to Fran Drescher laugh.

As far as ADD, can't handle one band for to long. Need variety. Guess my biggest problem with the stuff Waifer posted is IMHO it has a lot of similarities of the 70-early 90's rock ballads. And those hurt my head like Rush.

As for Classic rock? I like a lot of it, but a lot has been WAY over played by some of the local radio stations and I am just sick out it.

And for the record Tool sucks balls too... Why would one like such whinny bitching?

Oh, and Eddie Vedder destroyed rock vocalization for the past 20 years.
