The Last time I ran real locomotive was in the UP hump yard was in the early 1990s ... CC~It must have been "Hump Day". It was two MP1500s with an Alco slug in the middle.
I messed with toy trains in 1937. Then S scale in 1947. Then HO scale in 1950. I did the real thing in 1953. In 1970 I started doing the little bitty N scale that is in the photo above. A forty foot boxcar is only about three inches long. I have sold over 300 copies of a DVD of the layout running. It was written up in a train magazine in 1976.

The layout has 110 track turnouts (switches)~Nine trains can be run at one time but it takes a crew fellas to do it.

I built the layout rather than watch sit-coms.. Don S..

    Thanks...

    ..

    This is big kids stuff
On this railroad I not only promoted myself to be a locomotive engineer but became the master engineer and designer of the whole dang project... The wife and some friends also helped. As a hobby shop manager for 27 years the cost burden was lightened by getting everything at wholesale and repairing rejects.
The gearbox and 24 volt motor powering the turntable came out of a WW-II B-17 path finder radio- radar unit. Being a DC motor it runs well on 1 to 12 volts. Stall 5 can hold a U.P. Big Boy and a four unit diesel. The track goes under the town. It freaks people out when they see them all come out of the little roundhouse.

Sadly I am physically unable to maintain it the past year but it sits there waiting.
BTW this photo was shot and layered five times with a Sony Camcorder to get the depth of field needed for sharpness.

Wow... LSU can not lose with that power...
    Back at you...

    Photo Perspective;
When one sees this 'train set' one is shocked by how small very thing is.

The pair of Denver & Rio Grande black and yellow GP-7s are a total of 8 inches long. The little gray ‘Out House’ with a person reading a book (scratch built by my wife) is a half inch square by 1 inch high. There are 3 men (upper left) shoveling bat guano at the mine. It’s a smelly job but somebody has to do it! My wife also made the wooden water tower, It was like a hundred flat toothpicks to start with. I designed the wooden trestle and steel bridge and we both built them. A close friend painted and decaled the 2 Rio Grande black and yellow GP-7s .

Normally the U. P. Big Boys pulling 70 green fruit iced reefers would be blowing huge clouds of back smoke. I didn’t want that messing up my hand carved hydro-cal scenery so I photo shopped the blowers blowing steam as they idled down the hill. Camera, Canon power shot A1100 IS.

The Fort Worth and Brazos became known by people that had large operational train lay-outs as one of the best ‘Game Switching’ layouts. There were complex boxcar switching moves patterned after real life railroading that the way-freight train operators had to do. The then editor of Model Railroader magazine came all the way from Milwaukee to see if he could do it. I have scads of computer files and drawings of how it is all done. So a complete description of the operational side is quite complex.
And I’m out of hot air.. Don S..

I greatly admire the mental determination to maintain that attention to detail throughout that course! I see a stubborned OCD necessity to accomplish that...and I mean that in a very respectable manner!!

Have been floating the idea of doing something similar to the 70 GMC. I love the idea and another huge plus is the strength over the stock wood. Much more scratch and dent resistant. Thinking a blue/green epoxy. Only problem I have is that my wife hates the look.

My dad does lots of wood working and chain saw carving and all that and he made a table with some blue epoxy infil with some glow in the dark powder and it looks pretty darn good. Really cool looking at night. Is it the color combo she is not a fan of or is it the overall look?

No butt-hurtness here as far as what you posted. My reply to you was simply questioning whether you really agreed with all that or not and if you did, i offered and still offer to debate it with you. Obviously, it would have to be done through PMs or something since other people seem to want to butt in.
