We are trying very hard to keep Carnage open. In a meeting yesterday, we learned the Carnage was set to be closed due to the significant trail damage, but Christine (the Ranger in charge of the area) was convinced to rethink her position. We need a presence there to show we support the efforts to mitigate trail damage. We know the toll on volunteers is high and we are working to find ways of rewarding all of the efforts everyone puts forward. Several ideas were tossed out and we are working on them as we "speak". Len is fried - he needs assistance in managing this effort and we need to get the greeter program running again. It is important that we keep track of the shifts everyone works so we can recognize the efforts everyone puts forth.
For now, lets keep scheduling as it is - contact Len at welderlen@junco.com. As changes develop, we will post them.
The Forest Service is also asking for our input on just what specific issues and problems we as users of the area are most concerned with. In addition, the Forset Service is asking for your suggestions on how to mitigate the problems we see in the area. Send email comments directly to the Boulder Ranger District Travel Management Director - Cathy Luna - at: cluna@fs.fed.us
Snail Mail can be sent to:

Stay tuned.....

I agree with the greeter program and fully support it,but I find it amazing how quick people forget what you say to them. I went to run the trail both days last weekend and couldn't believe what some of our fellow wheelers would do. On saturday it was plainly obvious the forest service had done some work on the trail. Besides the fact there were 3 rangers checking for current plates at the begining but further up the trail they had blocked off a section that followed the creek. On sunday there were no rangers to be found, but the baracade they constructed to keep rigs out of the creek was totally destroyed. Now I just don't get it. This is exactly why they will close the trail. Maybe with more people like the greeters the message will sink in. I just hate the fact that it will be the actions of a few that ruin it for everyone else. graemlins/pissed.gif

the total disregard for responsible 4-wheeling
is one of the reasons my friends and i don't wheel left hand.as a part of a responsible loveland 4-wheel club i have done some nasty vehicle recovery up there and it just blows me away how many people dont understand what responsible 4-wheeling is.

i used to think that education was the trick, but i soon realized that you can only educate those who want to be educated. so we kinda gave up. since then we have started a new club and we all feel its time to get back in the game. people being united to do something......anything.....we want to help.

p.s. what happened to the volenteer patrol program ??????????

There is no money for anything from the FS - we need to take over the volunteer aspect

Kinda off subject but, I think many of the people who are shooting up there need to learn how to clean up their crap. Although this has nothing to do with the 4x4 ing it makes everybody who uses the area look bad.

What about more signs? I know there are idiots who ignore them but it would be great if there were more signs up there to let people know what is not to be driven over. Are they not using them because there is not enough money for them? If so I think we could start up a collection for them here. I can't imagine they would be that expensive (I hope). I think one of the problems up there is that some people are too stupid to realize that the logs blocking spots off are there for a reason but signs saying a section is closed off is a bit more intimidating and obvious.

Gawd, we have asked for signs but are constantly denied - we are working on it though.
