Check out today's article in the Post. I don't think it is illegal, but I do not agree with our elected officials doing this - the $$ is going to the Colorado Environmental Coalition - not sure if it will directly impact our trails...

Hickenlooper event draws fire (http://www.denverpost.com/Stories/0,1413,36~53~1512879,00.html)

If I remember correctly he is one of the founding members of the Wynkoop. Which if I also remember correctly gives X amount of their profits to the Sierra Club, which if I also remember correctly is a group that opposes mechanized vehicles on lot o trails.

Surprise! Luckily he is only the mayor and not the Gov'ner. graemlins/beer.gif

i think you're right that he does own part (or all?) of the Wynkoop...I know that as an entrepreneur (sp?) he has done a LOT to restore and revive Lower Downtown, in terms of preserving the historic buildings and I would guess also bringing business in. I personally don't see anything wrong with him supporting environmental groups IF it is on his dollar, if it is coming from our tax dollars, then that is a different story.

As for trails in Denver, I was not aware that there were any (legal?) trails in the city...

Its not a direct correlation between his mayorship and the closing of the trails - however he is using the power of his office to attract and hold the dinner to raise money for the Colorado Environmental Coalition. With more money, the coalition will have more legal power to persue injunctions and suits to close areas. ( I believe they are one of the groups pushing the FS to leave the Hackett area closed, amongst others...)

Hickenlooper's support of the Colorado Environmental Coalition is not new. He has done fund raising dinners for them in the past. It's just that, now that he's mayor, there's more attention paid and more draw for people to attend.

I do agree that some of the money raised will probably be used against us.

Anyone know what all his business interests are? I want to make sure I don't indirectly support the Colorado Environmental Coalition by giving these businesses my dollars.
