Went to take the bike out for a ride earlier and found my rear tire to be totally deflated  I've never done anything maintenance wise to my bike (2006 Honda Shadow VLX) except change the oil. Is this something i should attempt myself or try and have the dealership do it? I'd like to try and do it myself seeing as how i'm pretty strapped for cash right now and Colorado Powersports wants like 80 bucks to fix it, which wouldnt neccesarilly be a problem if i could get it there...So ya, any opinions? It's chain driven, not sure if that makes it any easier to get on/off than a belt or driveshaft driven bike..

is the VLX shaft drive?? if so, you for sure want the dealer to do it, otherwise, it depends on your finances,, IF I could afford to have the dealer do mine, then by all means, thats where it would go,, but then I have reached an age, where I dont want to turn wrenches on my old junk, if I dont have to.

Naw it is chain driven. The only real issue i have with taking it to the dealership, is how i am going to get it there...I've got a short bed Dodge Ram but no ramps, and even if i can find some ramps im not sure how comfortable i'd be with driving around with the motorcycle laying down in the bed of my truck. Fix-a Flat??

Dont even bother with fix a flat,, but why lay it down?? just stick it in there, and strap it upright.I have a ramp somewhere, but would have to dig around to find it, let me know if ya end up needing it, Im in Northglenn..
I will be out at CORE from wednesday on tho, so let me know before then..

It is actually a piece of cake to get the rim off. Pretty much take out the axle, unhook the chain, and slide it off. A motorcycle jack would be a big help, but if you are real careful you can do it with blocks and a small floor jack.

Clyde: As an FYI, the Honda shaft drives are actually the easiest wheels to get off. the axle holds it on, you pull the nut off, and pull the bolt out and the wheel/tire fall off. I was amazed the first time I did mine. My belt drive is the PITA...
