I got to talk to the new ranger that has taken over the Lefthand ohv area. He is very cool!
They are planning some changes though. I see most of them as being for the better.
1) He said they would like to put in toilets somewhere.
2) They want to put in fencing in places to show where the out of bounds areas are (so to speak).
3) Better signage of where the trails are and are not.
4) Probably a big billboard w/ an awesome map of the area on it. I saw their map, it is VERY GOOD! They have every trail we have ever covered on it and then some.
5) He is going to step up patrols of the area, this is to keep the shooters trash and drunks garbage down.
6) They are exploring having an access fee like Rampart Range does, something cheap, but enough to help cover improvements.
He said they are very aware of the need for people to have a place to go Ride & Jeep, they want to make Lefthand a better place for all of us. He got to ride up Carnage w/ someone out of Boulder (a rig builder), and loved it. He said he wanted a better "vehicle" so he could go up it more often, but the forest service didn't have one. That COHVCO Sammy is almost Forest Service green, might be interesting. Whoever got it might want to part with it????
Anyhow, he is going to contact me about meetings in the future, he wants OUR input into what happens up there. I also told him the meetings should be later in the evenings, then we might be able to get there after work.
I have met several rangers, this guy is by far the coolest and most open to us. graemlins/bounce.gif

That is very cool! Something had to be done about all the problems up there. I love to run Carnage and I know alot of other people that do as well. It would really piss some people off if they were to close it. It is also nice to know that the forest service does realize how important these things are to most of us. Thank you for your post, it has renewed my faith in the forest service! ;) graemlins/beer.gif

I think they should consider banning the shotting completly.

I brought that up having designated shooting areas. They can't do that because it is a National Forest, which means; shooting is allowed anywhere as long as it is not across a road. So the morons that shoot from one hillside to another need to be slapped with fines. They can be called in to the Boulder Rangers office. He also told me a ranger is not allowed to approach a shooter alone, they have to have another ranger with them for backup.
He and a few other people filled a 30yd rolloff with shooters trash, he is going to try and address this issue first.
Man I'm stoked, he seems to be someone we can work with!!!!!!!

Has anything really happened since this new guy stepped in? I haven't been up to Carnage for about a month now (jeep keeps giving me problems) so I haven't had a chance to see first hand. Just wondering, the topic kind of pittered out.

yes the trailridge runners are very active with the feller and i would suggest that some of you check in with them and support em. become a member. they will be up there doing lots of work over the next year. also csu has a grant to do some study and consulting on this and the pair of em came to the last trr club meeting.

I have never heard of the trailridge runners. Must be a local 4x4 club?

They were actualy up to around 75 people at one time. My bro in law was in it for a couple years. Kind of a smaller version of Mile-Hi.

Thats great news :D

It would be nice (if possable) to see some footage of the clean ups' that the TTR's put on. Just something that lets the people know that we DO care where we wheel...
Idea:
Go up there and film some shooters at a distance then jump into some cleanup tape, and explane why we have to clean up after others...
Is there a way you could cut the shows to tape and send it to a non-cable guy like myself????!!!
Also, if you wanna trade tape sometime, I'm always looking for new footage...

The plan of the show is to highlight the positive image of the OHV community. I am hoping through sponsorship to air the program nationaly but we will see. I did not plan for the series to be in a tape format but if there is a need it will go in that direction. We have planned on getting 4WD clubs involved by interviewing them and letting them explain thier organization. If anyone is interested all we are asking is some funding to keep the project going till we can get to the big fish. Anyone interested can e-mail me at OHVTV@Aol.com. Besides being known as THE TVGUY my name is Henry. Any and all coments are welcome

Maybe a month or so late in the commenting, but WOOHOO! I love the left hand area, and have always hoped to get a ranger that would help us keep that area the way WE want it. OPEN AND CLEAN!
