How come the Denver area doesnt have a ORVP? It would be nice to have a place to test out your wheeler and hopefully it would keep the bad press to a minimum. Is it the 4x4 clubs here are too weak to force this issue? As many wheelers of all kinds are here, it seems we could get something!

I live in Aurora and there is a great spot near my house (near Buckley Air Force Base) that has some nice ravines (steep) and stuff to play on. There is usually some mud pits as well. There is plenty to play on out there and I haven't been busted . . . yet :D
Let me know if you want directions.

I am now stationed in KY, and just minutes ago got back from the Badlands in Indiana.
It was 250 miles from my place and was totally awesome. We did the Troy Trail and it was rougher than anything in Colorado that I have done.
The Badlands is a private park, $15 a day, but it is a great concept ran by great people.
I have often wondered why Colorado doesn't have a OHV park be it public or private. I guess it is cause it is not like back here where there are not many places to wheel.
I thnk if enough people were to contact local governments or civic leaders maybe someone would help.
I think I was spoiled living so close to Independence.

I was behing Buckley Fri night listening to a friends popping jeep, its was his t-case popping. Its alright behind there, but I want something more extreme and legal! We need a place so something like that KBPI mess doesnt happen again. The Nature Nazis paint us badly and now would be the time to try to get something going. tongue.gif

I think I know the spot near buckley your talking about... it would be good to have a local area though that was legal. Luckily the spot out near buckley is kind of away from "general traffic" but I hate to see people wheeling in construction sites, even open fields near traffic, mainly because people will drive by thinking "those damn four-wheelers, tearing up that nice field like they all do" and then when the news comes on talking about the KBPI thing etc. that negative feeling is just reinforced.

I have been wondering the same thing.
My only guess is that we are too close to the mountains. But I think it would be cool to have a legal place to go 4 wheeling in the Denver area. And it could be open almost year round. They do the Jeep 101 Thing here once a year. Why not have something like that here, but bigger and better. I want a ORV park! smilies/crybaby.gif

Try contacting COHVCO (Colorado Off Highway Vehicle Coalition)for status of their effort to get this idea going.

That would be a good Idea, it would be great for testing mods.
Somebody out theres got to know somebody with an acre of land to use for it. Hell they could probaly make a buck or two in the process. smilies/biggrin.gif

There's a guy out on North Washington somewhere around 144th who lets people park (for a fee, I think) their tractors, campers trailers, etc. which are for sale where they can be seen from I-25 as you head north out of town. He recently added a dirt bike/ATV play area. Maybe he'd be interested in adding a 4x4 area, too.

There's also a large dirt bike/ATV complex off of I-25 north of Longmont (about the Berthoud exit, I think). Someon could talk to them about adding a 4x4 area.

This big question here is "Where?" would someone have the land to do this except way North, South, or East. I would love a testing area that even the CAR DEALERS could buy into to help sell. smilies/idea.gif Heck, I would even be happy to hit all of them up on this idea, personally. smilies/biggrin.gif

Cintennial Chrysler was using an area by my old job, Inverness Park area, for test driving new jeeps. That was until they put a building in the way. Anyone know of any areas like that? smilies/smokin.gif

That guy lets them park up there for free?

I know where your talking about and that would be a great spot, real close to home for me.
I'll have to swing buy and talk to him, you don't happen to know the guy do ya Bill?

No, I think he charges or get a commission or something. I don't know him I've just seen his place. It's not very far from where I live either.

I'll have to swing by and talk with him, If he agrees I assume we'll probaly have to get some people together and set it up if we want to get in cheap smilies/tongue.gif

Just found out about a park we have here in KY. It is one that you pay a one time membership fee and use it whenever. They are gonna open up one closer to me, so I'll have to go check it out.
Nothing like Colorado though. Even without a ORV park, you still have it a lot better than most.

smilies/biggrin.gif Nanuk, is there anyway you can find out if there was any problems with getting that started?

smilies/devil.gif The main reason for getting an ORV park is to test, or in my case verify, any mods or repairs with out having to drive all the way to the mountains. That way it's a much shorter pull back home. smilies/rolleyes.gif

Yeah...I know...DUH! smilies/smokin.gif
