View Full Version : Stella vs. PBR?

So, last night my wife and I went out to eat and I ordered a PBR to go with my fish and chips mainly because it was cheap, but also because the micro selection held no appeal for me.

After dinner we went to the liquor store to buy some beer, and Stella was on sale so I decided to buy some.

When I got home I opened one up for a little comparison while the PBR was still fresh in my memory. Results? Stella tastes like PBR with Belgian yeast. Don't get me wrong, I like them both, but I found them far more similar than dis-similar.

NO way. Stella is decent, PBR is garbage. I do this taste test all the time at the bar I work at. Both are fresh, not dated product, and PBR is le swill. WORST BEER EVER. PS I bought Deschuete's Imperial IPA today, should be good.

I guess you've never had Buckhorn? American? Milwaukee's Best (tragic if true) or, say, Steel Reserve?

If you think PBR is worse than those, then all I can say is that at some point you must not consider those brands to be beer-- no matter what it says on the can!;)

I have had the Beast in a can.
I have had Schlitz Malt Liquor in a can.
I have had King Cobra, I have drank that King Cobra down to the top of the label and filled the 40 oz back up (slowly) with orange juice and had a Kabrosa.
American and Lost Lakes REALLY cold in a can.
That Buckhorn don't know.

I would rather have warm goat piss than PBR.
Yes....
goat piss.

But if it is really hot and I am thirsty my hatred will not apply.
Because beer is really cool.

I'm shocked. Lost Lakes is an absolutely horrible beer!
And you prefer that to PBR? Wow!

I remember one camping trip where I had a "variety pack" going in my cooler. There was Strohs, Hamms, Schlitz, PBR, and Lost Lakes. Every time I pulled out a Lost Lakes, I tossed it back in, hoping some other sap would drink it.

I think Hamms might be slightly better than PBR, but PBR gets the edge over Old Style.

Nothing quite like the Milwaukee sampler.......

Assuming I can find it in cans, I'll throw some Stella into my Milwaukee sampler next time I go camping.

Occasionally for entertainment I'll stage blind taste tests. Last time I did that, the contestants were Budweiser, PBR, and Keystone Light (all in cans).

Results? The consensus was that Budweiser was easily the best. PBR and Keystone Light are VERY similar.
