Sam's Town 400K at Texas Motor Speedway Friday night.

Had seats right on the start/finish line. We got there early and watche the sad field of 19 indy cars in qualifying for the Bombardier Learjet 400 which was to be held the next day.

The truck race was a lot of fun. The trucks stayed together early on thanks to several cautions, but about midway through they had a long stretch of green running and the trucks spread out (as often happens on this track). It got boring for a while. But enough people were either blowing engines and creating oil slicks or hitting the wall that the field got pulled back together enough to keep it interesting at the end.

My bro and I had been following Todd Bodine on the scanner all night and he was having mechanical problems. They pitted numerous times trying to fix it. They hadn't had any luck and he was way off the pace. Somewhere about 3/4 of the way through the race they fixed whatever it was and he was on pace again. We were actually amazed to find out he was still on the lead lap.

Toward the end of the race Bodine had worked his way back to 2nd behind the 6 truck. Going into turn 1 Bodine was right on the guy's bumper. Well next thing we know the 6 truck is in the wall, the caution is out, there are only 6 laps left, and Bodine is in the lead. A green-white-checker later and Bodine wins.

I don't know if Bodine clipped him or if the 6 truck heard footsteps and got loose or if Bodine's truck just took too much air off his rear spoiler, but that comeback to 2nd place was a mighty good example of teamwork. The whole team worked to get that truck back in shape. No one bitched, they just troubleshot it and fixed it.

I will say that about 60% of the crowd booed Bodine after the race, but I have to give Bodine and his crew credit for overcoming all those problems and being there at the end - even if he hadn't won.

Fun night.

Yeah I thought I was in Checkered Flag. Oopsy.

Anyway, it was a fun race. Those trucks haul some pretty serious ass. :D

I went to the race in Kansas a couple years back and had a ball.
