A couple of friends ran the Silver State Classic this past weekend. Actually, the spring race is the Nevada Open Road Challenge (same road, same race).
One is Unlimited- it's the Camaro we used to run. 5 miles in, and an oil line let go. Done. He took the second turn on the course at 220MPH, so the car was running great. That's crazy speed for that sweeper.
My other friends were in the 170MPH average class. They spent all winter getting ready to run, and the car was dialed in. Sunday morning, they head to the start line, and decide to stop at Mc Donalds in Ely. They come out, and the tow vehicle is spitting coolant all over the parking lot. Done. Couldn't get the car to the start line.
Racing can be such a headache. Until you do it, it's just really hard to tell someone how tough it actually is to get a car together and complete a run at those speeds. BUMMER!!!
Another guy- the one who crashed his Corvair a couple of years ago- rebuilt another car just like his old one, and completed his run in the 170MPH class. This is his second successful run in as many months. Dude can wrench!
The race was completed without any "incidents".
