One of our assignments in photo class was to work with a model and learn the importance of various lighting. Please take a look at these and tell me which ones you like the best. I will send them to her so she can use them in her modeling career if she likes. It's hard to be objective about your own work. Thanks for your help.

The model's name is Suzie. Isn't she gorgeous! She was great to work with. We had 12 people in the class all trying to take shots of her at once. She was very patient and made sure she looked at each of our camera lens individually (although my personal preference are for the shots where she's not looking directly at the camera.) It was fun to tell her to be "fierce" or give us a "kinky librarian" or whatever insane thing someone from class might have thrown at her.

Being under those hot lights is no joke either. Everybody from class got to experience what that was like. VERY, VERY HOT and BRIGHT!

This one is my favorite, not because it's a great portrait of her, but I just like it. Was the assignment to take a good portrait photo?

why do you like it and why isn't it a great portrait? how could it be better?

it's one of my favorites too, but I'm thinking in modeling, isn't it best if the subject is looking directly at the camera?

I like it because it's candid, and I like the look on her face, and it looks relaxed, it's just an appealing photo.

It's not really a traditional portrait though, cropped too tightly and her arm obscures her face, etc. It's a really nice picture, but I wouldn't call it a portrait.

These are EXCELLENT!

I love the lighting on them. Overall, the studio effect really does it.

A few things that I suggest is that some of the pictures have the WB off. Keep the WB as close to the same as possible.

Also, might try to photoshop out her arm blemish when you get CS2 on there.

I think I know which ones you are talking about Gray...I did some changes to those shots with Picasa just to see what some different effects might look like. I can change them back if you don't think they worked out.

I'm yet to shoot a model who doesn't complain about the lights. I've even started fires with em. Using tissue on my flash as a buffer, that burns up pretty quick as well. I've gotten used to the smell of burnt tissue now. :(
