So I brewed an IPA about 3 weeks ago with ridiculous amounts of hops (16oz total) that I think will be a bit much, but want to enter something in the Mt Sun IPA contest....I was thinking, I am enjoying the Saison that I made a couple months ago so much, that I might try doing a regular IPA but ferment it with my saison strain...I feel like the bitterness of the hops might complement the fruity/spiciness from the yeast. What think you all?

Do it- I just brewed 10 gallons of IPA and I'm fermenting it with WLP500 and WLP570. It's intended to be a Tripel (ha, ha) IPA. Lots of hops, lots of fruity goodness. Saisons are supposed to be hoppy, anyway, according to a few BJCP judges... some think otherwise. I tend to agree that they can be hoppy or not, it depends on the brewer.

Sixteen ounces!!??!! Holy crap!!!

Have you tried it yet? I mean, I thought I was a hop-head!

The most hops I've ever used in a beer was about four ounces in the boil and another four ounces dry-hopped. Personally I like the beer, even though it was a bit "on the edge," but it was way over the top for everyone else who tried it.

I have done 8 and 12oz in my previous IPAs, its all about varieties, aa%'s, and time in the boil. The 16oz one (actually now 20oz after double-dry hopping) was a mistake, it was 4/21, I was pretty 'hung over' and instead of adding 1oz Cascade and 1oz Centennial to total 2oz at each of 4 additions, I added 2oz of each at each addition, I have no idea what I was thinking. I tasted when racking to the secondary, and it is very very hoppy, going to bottle this weekend and see what happens...it will still be beer.

Wow! I thought I was bad! My IPA has 6oz of Hops in the Boil with 2 oz more in secondary.

3oz Chinook, 2oz Cenntennial, 1 Warrior

and then

1oz Cenntennial, 1 oz Warrior...
