Canon A540 Macro focus selection

Took my wife's camera out for some macros this weekend. Have to admit, I was very disappointed. May have been partly due to the fact I wasn't using a tripod, but when I loaded up the pics this morning, the parts of the image that the camera chose to focus on were disappointing. Out of the numerous shots I took, only a few came out really nice. Others had the central part of the image WAY out of focus. I am thinking they had to have changed something in how they chose the focal point in the software for this series vs my G5. :( I did get a few good shots, but I feel I would have gotten far more with my camera. Dangit...

And of course, my wife, who doesn't care much about photography except that she wants a good picture of whatever her subject is, took some beauts in macro mode:

Maybe the camera doesn't like me.

can you use a manual focus in Macro mode? that might help give you more control over the focal point.

Not sure on the A540. And didn't want to take the time to figure it out. It was 91F, plus humidity!
