View Full Version : Getting paid for your shots...

This is an aspect of photography I didn't think about. This weekend, I took some shots at my boss's bridal shower that she said she would PAY me to take some shots at her wedding reception!

I've been told that taking shots at weddings is difficult, so I made sure would have a real professional there taking the main shots. But it's still cool that I could get paid to do this even before I become a photojournalist.

another place you can get paid for your pictures is: http://istockphoto.com/index.php

I have an account on there. They are very strict about the quality and type of photos they allow, but if you shoot what people want (and do a good job of making them searchable), you can make some decent side money :)

You wanna know the secret trick?
Read the forum.. figure out the shots people are requesting and post those up when someone requests them. Don't try posting them unless someones currently requesting it unless its a SICK shot!

Both of you need to bend over.

(Note to Una...I am the resident a$$ admirer on the board. I tend to like smacking a$$es whether it's for fun or punishment. The a$$ smacking you and Chester would be getting today would DEFINITELY be punishment)

cs2 is nice....an upgrade to 3 is only $199. I need to look into that. Skier do you know what changes they have made?

thenimirra, you are taking photo classes, you should see if you can get the student discount and get the education version. That is what I did when I was is school, the full cs2 creative suite was only around $650!

that's a great idea! Thanks! do these have to be accredited classes, supported by a university? I'm taking classes at the Denver Darkroom...which is excellent BTW.

Those classes helped me nail my first paid photography gig at this wedding!

If I remember right, they needed a copy of your student i.d. There may have been more, but it is def worth looking into. I've heard good things about the DD. Are the classes at/near the flash gallery? or am I thinking of something else?

The classes are off Tejon and 46th. Is that the Highlands Neighborhood? I get all the Denver neighborhoods mixed up. You take I-70 to Pecos to get to it.

They have everything.....from learning how to use Photoshop to taking pics at night.

That is cool.:)

I guess I should post something relevant to the thread...
Another thing you might keep in mind is shooting senior portraits. It is pretty good money on the side. There are lots of ways to make money in photography, you just need to have the skills, and meet/know the right people. I am getting into the industrial photography side of things, but shoot everything at this point having just finished up with school about a year ago.

Not sure what all changed. I haven't even scratched the surface of what it can do. But I get it free, so I figure what the heck.

Wrong thread :D

Every time I read the title of this thread, all I can think of are "Money Shot" jokes.
