So, I am going on a transatlantic sailing trip and then spending some time in spain before I fly back... I plan on taking a lot of pictures but can't bring a laptop, so I found a PSD for cheap that is very fast (apparently) I will let you know once I get it...

anyways this is what it is:
http://www.eastgear.com/shop/images/PD70X_200.gif

basically a battery powered hard drive enclosure with some memory card slots in the side...

it uses AA batteries, with a built in NiMH charger (for rechargables)
user upgradeable laptop harddrive (I bought mine without a drive)

and apparently it's FAST! I was reading reviews that it would transfer 2Gb in under 5 minutes...

I will let you know how it all works out, the only dealer in the U.S. is eastgear.com (which ships from singapore, although the shipping is 3 day)

it was cheap too... $75 shipped..

Sounds cool - be very curious to see how well it works for you...

My thoughts exactly. Please post a report (and trip pictures) after you give it a good workout.

well I am SHOCKED how fast it is getting here... it's in Tennessee right now, and supposed to be delivered by 10:30 am tomorrow! I had an old dell laptop drive that went bad that I happened to try and get replaced, and that was next day aired to me for free!!! so that should show up tomorrow too... I will post some preliminary reviews once I get the sucker fired up, and once I get back I will do a full review...

oh I did not mention it but two companies sell the product, one is "hyperdrive" which seems to have most of the software and accessories available and the other is "compact drive" which is the secondary name for it, it's cheaper from compact drive, but all the firmware updates on hyperdrives site list the PD70X as compatible hardware, so they are the same...

the unit apparently ships with V2.1 firmware, and there is a V2.2 out so i will be updating that too...

cant't wait!!

What's the capacity?

capacity is up to 160Gbs, you install the drive so it's up to you to decide how much you want... I have a 40Gb 5400RPM 8MB cache drive that I installed.

I just received it in the mail and I am surprised how small it is... I have to find some batteries before I can truely use it though, I can plug it in to the wall...

a lot of the reviews say it's big and bulky which is not true it's about the size of a pocket dictionary...
