I really want a digital video camera but I havent kept up with the technology

Whats the cheapest at this point?
Highest quality (without being absurdly expensive)
Longest record times?
Ease of transfer-abilty?

Danke!

We have a Canon ZR700 that takes very nice vids. Not sure where the best price is lately. Looks like the ZR850 replaced it. About $350. Palm of your hand, pants pocket sized cam. Great features for the price. 25X optical zoom. The 850 has 35x optical zoom. Buy the most optical zoom you can afford. I've heard to stay away from JVC, and Sony is fragile. I owned a Sony once (acquired in a trade) and it was severely delicate, ie. it didn't last long, even with careful handling. Might be different now. Our Canon has amazing sound capture, and it can take still shots like a regular camera, and can snatch stills from video capture as well. I think that's pretty standard stuff for most brands these days.

I have a JVC HDD Camcorder and I love it. Have already recorded 20GB with it, and it has worked like a charm, even when it got hit by a baseball... (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YQSGn9FF_4g)

When I buy a new camera it will definitely be one with a hard drive, probably a JVC. I like there controls the best.

I like the hard drive cam's but they seem to be pricey.
