to a photo, is the image still true or just doctored up? How do we know what's real and what's just been redone?

I am ok with retouching to bring the colors out. Makes a good pic look great, and it could be more representative of what was actually seen.

I fought this same battle in my mind when switching from print to digital. My feelings were that anyone could take great shots in digital and all the creativity would be gone and no one would know what was real anymore.....
Decided I wasn't takin my pictures for other people, but for me. So I don't let it bother me anymore.
nimirra, don't you have a job......

I don't feel there is anything wrong with it as long as it represents what you saw. You might have a scene your cameras latitude can't expose for. Take two pics and combine them. Voila, you have your scene as you saw it. Sure beats buying and carrying neutral densuty filters and the like.
I am not a fan of digital art though. Too much going on in the mind and not enough in the camera. But that is the great thing about this form of art. VERY subjective.
Happy shooting,

I have to take photos sometimes which are ment to be photoshopped. Other than that, when showcasing or selling photos. I'll only "edit" them in PS as to make color photos black and white. Which IMHO isn't "retouching" it.
