Found in another thread.
This is utter BS. You never ask for a persons recipe and you never ever lay claim to it as your own.
I would have to agree with part of this statement. Yes "never lay claim to a recipe as your own" if it is not.
But on the other side of that. How did you start brewing? Where did you get recipes?
The purpose of sharing recipes is to find stuff that you like and have good starting points to experiment with. Or if someone likes your beer and would like to take it as a base for something to make at home, why not.
Beers your entering in comps that you don't want people copying then don't share the recipe. And never take someone else's recipe and enter it into a competition.
There are many other people out there that like to share recipes and see where other people take the idea.

Where do I get my recipes? I have yet to brew anyone elses recipe and I never will. I build my own after researching the styles and grains/hops/yeasts. I usually spend quite a few hours building them. Some are great, some are really really bad. Ask me about my spruce beer some time. :barf:
And if I want to share a recipe, then I share it. But don't ever ask. That is just rude. And I have shared one recipe, Jeepindog has a copy of it. I am hoping we can brew it when I get back from Moab.

I still have it. We're using Trappist high gravity yeast, right?

I know you still have it. I just can't insert smilies from my phone for some reason. :P
Oh and on the yeast? That would be a big NO! sheesh!
