I am having a problem doing multiple layers in a simple image. I did this 7 times earlier today and it's not working this time around and I don't know what I am doing differently.

I used the wand tool to select a logo, I copied that as a transparency to a new image canvas. That logo is Layer 1. I am trying to make the background of that canvas into a new layer but it's not working now? I was able to just right click and select background as the layer many times today but not now.

What steps am I missing this time around that I apparently got lucky with all the other times today? Is there an online tutorial you know of that would explain the layers to me a little better? I thought I had a handle on them before but after this... not so much.

Thanks.

not 100% sure if I'm clear on what your asking but if yuo want to turn the background into a layer the just double click on the background and it will pop a box and click ok to make it a layer.

That's my point - that is not working like it was earlier today? I'll walk you through my exact steps...

1. Magic wand to select the image portion I want to keep.
2. Copy that selection.
3. File -> New -> Background Contents: Transparent
4. Paste selection into new canvas

That selection becomes Layer 1. Where the heck is the background layer? It's not showing anywhere like it was earlier today. I didn't think I was doing anything different than before but apparently I am?

So you want a background layer? In step 3 make the background contents "white" - that will give you a background layer - then paste and that will become layer 1.

There is no background layer because you selecthed transparent.

On the Layers toolbar, at the bottom, pick the button next to the trash can to create a new layer. Move it to the botom of the layer list and fill it in white with the paint bucket.

its simple you need to get off the computer and build a rig :flipoff2:

Oh Dayum hightimes2 - that's harsh. I need the 'puter to make a living to build the rig! LOL Chasing the ever-evasive dollar.

I am putting a logo on a web page, but making the image a transparent gif looks like arse on the page (lots of white space/pixles around the image for some reason). So, I copied the web background pattern and placed it as the background for the transparent image with the image overlayed on top of it. This looked a lot better, but trying to do the same thing with different colors is still not working...

I will try the above suggestions again though...

Mojo - you have the magic apparently because I did what you said and it worked this time around. Why it didn't work the other 20 times I'd tried I couldn't tell you... but thanks for the help...
