View Full Version : Why NASCAR Short Track is Boring

Now I'll admit that attending - in person - any NASCAR race is an impressive spectacle on several levels, but...

Here you have 800+ HP, 200+ MPH-capable, fire-breathing dragons reduced to the top speed of a slightly modified moped.

Here you have too many cars on a tiny track (meaning lots of yellow flag boringness)

And finally, because even at those slow speeds, they're still just turning left!

Give me high speed or high skill (as in the whopping two road courses) and save the short tracks for the midgets and sprint cars.

To each their own... Cautions are always boring. NASCAR is the only sport worth watching. Oh course I've got it bad. Real bad.. Kinda of obsessed actually...=/

Martinsville isn't one of my favorite tracks...there once but never went back. However, I would rather see a race at Martinsville again rather than returning to Michigan. Far more action at a short track. At Michigan its hard to find a seat that has a view of the entire track, cars get strung out and the racing can get rather boring. But, I prefer either Martinsville or Michigan over a road course simply because I can see more of what's going on. At a road course one's pretty much limited to viewing a small section of track at a time. There can be a lead change and who knows how it happened.

At one time I was a pretty big fan of the sport, but when tickets to a NASCAR race have became too expensive for me to attend, I lost most of my interest.

Good post- I am not a big fan of short tracks, either. I was listening to a racing show on the radio this weekend (I have it REAL bad), and they were talking about short vs. long tracks. This weekend's race was the first sellout of the year for NASCAR.

Apparently a lot of the fans really like the short tracks. The guy on the radio was saying that NASCAR should make their next track a short track.

For me, racing is about speed. 200 is a magic number, and once you're at or above that, that's where the real racing is. It's dangerous, things happen so quickly you cannot react, and it just takes some big stones to strap in and do it. About the only thing I like about short tracks is the ability to go from 1st to 20th and back to 1st in the course of 50 laps. That's interesting.

I'm stoked now that the ALMS is getting ramped up, the open wheel cars are starting to run, and the Speed World Challenge is getting ready to go. Also, best of all, and most amateur of all, the Open Road Racing season starts in a mere 3 weeks- where a regular guy can go out and run 200 for 30+ minutes at a stretch.

I agree on the short tracks, except Bristol. I think Bristol is one of the best races I've been to.

I am sick to death of the "cookie cutter" 1.5 mile ovals. Next tracks need to be either road course or Short track or a stupid big taladega style 2.66 mile super speedway. I love Martinsville and Bristol. Short track racing is where you learn car control and finece(sp). Plus, there is nothing better then going to your local short track and watching some late model modifieds.. I love the beating and banging.

Clint, Dana, Kathy and I will let you all know how "boring" short track racing is after we attend the Bristol races in August. :flipoff2:

My parents went to the boring race last year when it snowed... the drivers were throwing snowballs into the crowd. It was a blast...

I'm not much for Nascar myself, but Bristol is awesome.
