I just finished going through The Photoshop Show Starring Russell Brown (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/032120042X?ie=UTF8&tag=bullockfamily-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=032120042X) and would definitely recommend it to anyone wanting to get more out of Photoshop (if you only know the basics, like me). I think I paid $12 for it used, the link above will take you to Amazon's listings.
Anyway, it was useful for me through Chapter 7, then it went on a tangent about morphing people into various things (in this case a Frankenstein). I don't have a need for that, but the first 7 chapters were definitely useful for masking out parts of an image, changing backgrounds, etc. Will definitely help with some of the photochops I will likely have to do.
I definitely think my next photoshop-related purchase will be Adobe Photoshop CS2 for Photographers: A Professional Image Editor's Guide to the Creative Use of Photoshop for the Macintosh and PC (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0240519841?ie=UTF8&tag=bullockfamily-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=0240519841) and then Photoshop Masking & Compositing (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0735712794?ie=UTF8&tag=bullockfamily-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=0735712794). I have to get my flickr hacks books first though.
Does anyone have copies of the above books and can recommend (or not recommend) them? I'll be buying used for sure, but don't want to spend even that much if they aren't worth my time...
