Well, tell ya what guys, I'm broke, B-R-O-K-E, but I need a pistol before this summer. Prefer .357. Can anyone tell me what I should look for in a used one? i gotta try and pick one up on the cheap at a pawn shop or something.

Failing that, if anybody wants to unload one, I got a decent paintball setup and some KC Dayliters if anyone wants to do a trade. Pathetic, ain't it? LOL

Ah, the old saturday night special :D Unfortunately you get what you pay for... I'd be nervous about a really cheap gun at a pawn shop. If you're using it for personal protection (which I'm guessing you are, since you want a .357), you need something you can trust 100%. If you do pick up a cheapy, make sure you take it to a reputable gunsmith to have him do a reliability test and tune!

A used Ruger GP-100....a used one in good shape will run you about 250-350 bucks. About the cheapest your going to find a QUALITY 357 without buying a piece of junk. Watch yourself at the pawn shops cuz everyone ive ever been too asks new prices...or higher, so know your prices before you buy anything from a pawn shop.

You might be able to pick up a Ruger security six for a little less, but their rare to find. A smith or a colt is going to be considerably more money and their not necessarily any nicer.

Dont bother with Taurus.

Your not too far from Loveland, so id suggest hitting up Sportsmans warehouse and Jensens and see what they have...their going to be your best bet.

Try Garretsons on W. 10th st. I've gotten some great deals there on used guns. Also try Orchard ace hardware in Loveland. Jeffro is right, 250+ minimum and the rest of what he said.

smith or ruger.
why .357 if your broke? them's are expensive to feed. whats the purpose for the gun? self defense? if so, dont go cheap.

what to look for in a used revolver....

make sure the screws arent boogered up...
make sure it locks up tight...
look at the bore....
make sure it locks up/times up in SA and DA (meaning the cylinder turns and locks before the hammer drops. make sure the cylinder doesnt shake back and forth (end shake) while its locked up....
make sure there isnt an overly visible gap between the cylinder and yoke (beginning of bbl)....
make sure there isnt any flame cutting (just above the yoke on the top strap) - look for the beginning or progression of a thin cut.... (means its been shot ALOT)
check the finish and overall condition....

thats all i can think of now. good luck.

a 9mm glock 19 is a far cry from a .357.

You can generally find a nice S&W 66 for around $300. That and the Rugers are going to be your best bets.
