View Full Version : what cool pics did you take this weekend?

I was thinking about my shutterbug wheelers this weekend and wondering what if any cool pics you took along the trails or around the state.
I was hoping this might be a continued thread so that every weekend, or day if you choose, you can post a favorite pic to share.
Please tell what kind of camera you used, any interesting information about how you took the shot and where the shot was taken.
I took some great shots this weekend, but unfortunately I can't post any of them on this general board because they aren't family friendly!

I have to admit, my heart still skips a beat whenever I think about how much I paid for my Canon Rebel Xti. That's how I felt when I wrote the check for my first mortgage payment.
I used money from my income tax return to pay for the camera and the classes. That way, I didn't feel so bad about it. Maybe you could try to save $100 a month for 10 months? Jen might accept that process better, Chester.

With a baby arriving soon, I have an excuse to at least upgrade to a better camera. My cell phone has a higher resolution than my current camera..:( Then again, Im on number two and I bought this one many years ago when they were still "new".

I use the fisheye for virtual tour type stuff sometimes. I am assuming you are talking about real estate virtual tours. When a client needs a photo of a smaller room I will use it. I prefer just to use a wide angle linear lens on architechture work though.
The fisheye is real fun to just play around with, funny pictures of the dog, etc. It can really be an awesome look when used right. My profile pic is with the fisheye.

Didn't need a lens, it was a mode in the camera.

Zoom lenses are nice. I enjoy shooting with the telephoto lens more than the fisheye(most of the time...). You have to really compose your shot with a telephoto lens.

It really is never ending just like wheeling. Start off with a nice set-up, think it is all you need. Then you want(sometimes need) something better and more expensive, and again, etc. You might as well just invest in some Pro gear from the start, save some $$. Just like how some on here say," do it once, do it right".

Image stabilization is really cool. My Canon 70-200F/4L IS USM lens is amazing! It gives the equivalent effect of a shutter speed 4 stops faster. A rule of thumb when hand holding long lenses is never shoot a shutter speed slower than your lens, so if your lens is 200mm, you wouldn't want to shoot slower than 1/200th. With this lens I can shoot at 1/15th sec. at 200mm and get clear images(most of the time, you still have to hold the camera very still). It is cool and worth the $ IMO.

I would think it would still be ideal to be on a tripod or monopod...
TrailTJ
May 3rd, 2007, 02:19 PM
Yeah, tripod or monopod is a must with a lens like that pretty much all of the time. The fact that you CAN handhold a 200mm lens at 1/15th is pretty crazy though.

I took shots at a wedding reception and at the Lefthand Canyon cleanup.
Needless to say, I had way more fun shooting at the canyon than I did at the wedding.
I will NEVER be a wedding photographer. Every time I got my camera set up, they changed the lighting and I had to start all over again! You really gotta know your camera and how to adjust quickly under any circumstances when shooting at an event like this.
Here's my Carnage shots...
