Made the mistake of looking at bikes a little bit lately. I went with a friend today that knows HD better than I do. He has a softail deluxe.

Two bikes jump out at me that are totally different bikes. I like certain things about each one. First is the Vrod screamin eagle. Definitely a high performance bike. The other is the Road King custom. Sitting on that bike is like sitting in my la-z-boy.

It was rainy and crappy today so no riding, but I think I'd like to ride each before I get more serious about buying. It's still not a definite go, but I'm getting closer to pulling the trigger on one.

Give me your pros and cons of each bike. I think I'm leaning towards the custom, but I'd still like to hear what everyone has to say.

Well do you want to go fast on a not so comfortable bike...or slow on a recliner?? Two totally different styles of bikes so it depends on what your after here...a comofortable cruiser or something you can go hot rod.

Ditto jeffro.

I personally think the roadking can be worked to be fast enough for me. But, I have never ridden anything other than Harley. I know all those superbikes are wicked fast.

I rode a v-rod and is scared the crap outta me how fast it was. My next bike will be the road king.

Thanks, that's the type of thing I'm looking for.

I grew up riding fast dirtbikes and speed is definitely a rush, but I don't really think that's what I'm looking for here; I do like the VRod without a doubt though.

The Custom probably fits what I'm looking for in a bike more than the VRod. I guess checking out a custom at TMC is always an option too.

Guys that ride v-rods are not generally accepted by the rest of us as being real bikers, unless they have a normal HD that they ride as well.. Yeah the vrod is fast, but what a gawdawful ugly fawkin thing it is.. Go with the custom, youll be happier all the way around..

Don't buy a harley. You will kick it and push it and cuss it more than you will ever ride it.

I wasn`t a big V-rod fan at 1st, but last year I rented one, and it was fun, 3rd gear, I went from 65mph to 115mph in about 1.5 seconds.

The thing that puzzles me about Harley bikers, and the V-rod, is most bikers have German Heritage in there blood, the motor of the V-rod was completely designed by Porsche, Prosche is as German as you can get, and most of the rest of the V-Rod was designed by Harley.

The problem is, most people do not like change. I have friends (HA) that say Harley sold out in 99' & 2000, because they went to balanced motors, and rubber mounted motors in all of there bikes.

I also tease some of my friends that buy a Harley, and they want a newer one that doesn`t shake like mine:D .
And then I have some other hard core Harley rider friends, that love the V-Rod, because it has given all of the other bikes out there a run for there money on the drag strip.

The nice thing is, since the V-Rod isn`t so sought after by the biker world, is you can buy a used one in near new condition for about $10k.
My plan is to buy an older Ultra, like late 80`s, and put a big 120cu Ultima motor, and a 6speed tranny in it for my touring bike, and then buy a used V-Rod for my hotrod bike:drool:

Victory's look cool but they don't have very good feedback in the reliability department. The recliner will hold it's value better than the V-Rod. Plus the V-Rod really isn't that fast in the world of FAST bikes. You'll end up seeing a lot of tailights saying "Damn-I lost another one!":D

Good OL` shovel, I`m tired of people bragg`n about there pan heads, I still like the knuckles. I plan on getting a knuckle in the future for another fun project. Theres a new shop that opened up at 9005 w 44th in wheatridge, they do know there old bikes very well.

They have a 98cu. knuckle that will wheelie in 3rd gear no problem.
Most of my friends say that my bike shakes to much (94' Heritage) I laugh at them. I know the girls love my bike, in certain ways, especially when they ride on the fender:D .Im stuck on the old school stuff, im still riding my FXE shovel, no rubber mounting there, ya wind out third gear on that, and ya better have a spatula to peel the gal off the back seat when your done,,, Ahhh Shovelheads, AKA the orgasmatron..

LOL! thats funny, I`ve seen to many Harleys out last other bikes that have timing chains. My friend at work put 149k on his EVO with only standard maintenance, and his brother put 135k on his before they both needed rebuilt.:D
