View Full Version : Road Track in Pueblo??? Q

I heard there was a road track in Pueblo that you can actual take your bike on and race. From what I understand they have cars and bikes running different days and that you can purchase some track time for a 1/2 or full day.
If this is true, I'm interested in finding more info on it. Thought I would see if anyone would respond while I do my search for it.

Does anyone know the name of this road track in Pueblo? Any info on the this track?

Thanks,

I've never been there, just heard of the place, so I have no insight.

Wow, Quick replies! THANKS!

Yep... found it!

Looks like open track time for Bikes is this Friday. but from what I understand, you can't get any track rental time until you go through their manditory safety course for $149, which includes 4hr class time and 4hr track time.

looks like no one is answering the phone. Would be nice to know when class scheduling is available durring the week to attend?

Got a hold of Jay the GM, he was able to give me the very basic info but didn't know much about the sports bike racing side of it. However this is what he was able to give me thus far. I hope he will give Earlene my message to call me back to get things in the works to get my safety racing license.
From the two guys that were killed in LaJunta, the safety course is now being inforced. I think that is very wise to get everyone on the same page in knowledge of track ediquette when entering and racing the track, or people would be all over the place and could be a dangerious hazard to those more experienced on the track and to others as well.

1) a web site to a possible race MRA safety license trainer...
http://mra-racing.org/

2) Gear requirements.... Only 1 & 2 piece theather are "Only" clothing permitted, along with the gloves, helmet etc.

I can see this getting expensive! So my next question.... Where to get a two piece leather?:flipoff2: I see a complete set of gear for $600, but I have the remainder of the gear except for the two piece leather. Don't think I want the one piece... But who knows?

Anyone else into super bikes that may want to attend a class with me as well? I know... I'm on the wrong site now:rolleyes: Another Forum for education perposes.:flipoff2:

Lightly Mixed 110 octain racing fuel to clean this baby out a bit.... Hmmmmm sure love the sweatness of burned racing fuel!

OK, I've gone :silly: ! Who's comming with me?:flipoff2:

I would guess if you didnt then race fuel would actually slow you down.... I ran my bike at bandimere a bunch of times last year... anything over 91 and it didnt like it... now on the other hand if you had boost... and a power commander..

A power commander is a Air/Fuel/Timing piggyback computer that wires into your bike to change fuel tables... allows for custom tuning when you add and change mods... IE Exhaust, Manifolds, Intake, Turbos..

I just got a mail order catalog this weekend that had 2 peice leathers, they were around $400 IIRC. Don't remember the name of the place, it was something like Accesories Connection, or something similar.

Pueblo is a great track and unfortunately one of the few places in Co to ride now. We used to have so many tracks in close proximity to each other.

I used to race but the lack of tracks and my obsession with hitting trails took care of that, mostly that lack of tracks nearby.

Maybe TE was talking about competition accessories???

Anyone game for IMI on Saturday 3-31-07? Cost is 35 bucks and only helmet is required, track prepping the bike is not required there. Of course it is recommended for full leathers, gloves, boots, etc, just not required.

Here are some pics from last Sunday:

I remember when it was $15 for a day at IMI. Its a great place to learn to go fast and you're better off going during the week to dodge the Karting crowd.

I really like running that track Counter-clockwise

Yep... Call me the New Kid on the block... But ya got to start somewhere!

Conrad.. do you still have your bike? I may be interested in going if I get my full leather in time. I received my two piece but will be selling that one on ebay.

Is that the Pueblo track? SO not sure what other tracks are around here thus far yet.

So has anyone had issues with Rocky Mountain Cycle?
I'm a little perturbed with this guy "Tim" that works in Service! My bike is in for a full tune and a few other misc. stuff that will total around $800 or so. So get this, I bring my bike in a day early on Tues for work on Wed. In previous conversation with "tim" I regarding the labor + misc. parts that may need to be purchased that aren't covered before hand to cover all my basis to have the parts on order... To do a full tune with valves you would assume that they would automatically replace the needed gaskets etc. They remove the gasket to find it has deteriated when pulled apart... HELLO Mc Freakn Fly! ... Heat+ Oil + O-ring = deteriation and needed replacement when removing any valve cover etc. I get the... it will cost you $$$ for this and $$$ for that... and oh by the way... we had to order it and it won't be here ti'll Friday!

So I ripped into him a little. I hope to pick it up Thrs. Still a little displeased!

Well... was able to straighten things up with "tim" and ended up being a pleasant experience. He did everything he could to get me my bike Thrs. night in which I gave him my graditude.

So I asked how bad the bike was... The mechanic said he had never seen an older bike look soo good. He didn't need to adjust any of the intake or exhaust valves at all. All still in spec. Replaced and adjusted my clutch and cable, chain and sprokets. So.... tell me what is wrong with this picture?
http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g54/mudnyrey/Jayscarandmypaintedhouse013.jpg:eek: Can't believe I never skipped a tooth. Not much more on this "Service trip" will the bike will be needing any other additional service since I covered it all in the shop thus far.
Should be receiving my 1pc leather today. Sure looks like a good day to go for a ride... House chores and still remaining to thin out my junk for the move first before I head on out!

Well after replacing the chain and sprocket again with the 520 conversion kit using 15 tooth from a 14 in front and gaining one in the rear to 45 from a stock of 44, seems to be a good over all for now.
This past week I also replaced the clutch but have yet to get out and really do some testing since it already feels and rides like a "New" bike!

Been looking for additional body armor for it as well and at most... just Race armor coweling for the bike, since I know I will eventually down it while taking what I learned in my MRA class Yesterday (Sunday April 8th) Unfortunatley.... When the track was dry and it seemed to be somewhat promising here in the Springs at 4:30a.m when leaving for PMI a few fronts came in and wet the track. The sun didn't break out as we had hoped and later that afternoon and the class room teaching was over, most of us were outside working on our bikes getting ready for Tech inspection.... Well, it was decided on the side of caution due to the obvious conditions, that track time would be canceled.

My reschedule is on the 20th were as I also may be working the 1st open race of the season of the 28th to start placing in Novice hours... :flipoff2: as a flagger on one of the courners.

I will be safety cabeling this bike soon with some help of one of the local MRA members here in the springs.

The MRA club seems like a close "FUN" nit group of peeps!
My new Dianese suit is now getting some alerations work done on it, as it was a little tight and much more when I had my new Icon back support vest in... a trade in from the AlpineStar i had originally purchased that seemed to be too bulky.

Soo much to learn in a new sport that has some very scary risk from all the stories that already have been experienced from those in the group I have talked with thus far.

The MRA used to be a great bunch of people I haven't raced in 15 years but they would do anything for you then I feel its safe to assume nothing has changed with them. I'm sorry to say that the tracks I enjoyed most are now long gone SCR was a blast but Steamboat was over the top. PMI was where I used to get my speed fix easily being the fastest track in Colorado(15 years ago) dragging your knee in turn 1 oh man what a rush!! I just wonder if they have repaved PMI?? It really needed it then somehow I doubt it anyway you guys are making me feel old have fun and be careful guys!!

LipCJ7,,,

I have heard a lot about those track from the guys in the MRA. I have been talking with many of them helping me learn the ropes! Yes, I doubt if anything has changed. Great, close knit group of guys with most a great kick back attitude.

If you get a chance, The 2007 MRA season program is out. On page 35 it lists the title of "Fading Tracks" Aspen, Steam Boat, Stapelton Airport,,,

took this week to Safety wire my bike. All the holes are drilled except for the front brake line bolts, in whiich I have to replace with steal braided anyways...

For a new beginner... it's been a knickle and dime process.

Aspen was before my time and Stapleton was after I had moved to AZ for a couple years. Aspen I was told about from my peers fun track with elevation changes similar to Steamboat I guess, Mead was alot of fun sorta had the Laguna Seca twist with the Dragon slide probably the track I low sided the most at, I also High sided a couple times there good time!! PMI was probably the easiest lots of runoff room hopefully its been repaved I could have gone 15 mph faster in a couple turns if the track could have held it. Second Creek tight and pretty fast although I haven't been back since Willy got killed there. but Steamboat was by far my favorite it had everything tight turns long sweeping turns elevation changes on straights and at apex the whole deal what a time!
Funny thing is I also got my only flight for life from Steamboat damn the luck!!

Yes, it was a great article to read about those tracks when they were open. Too bad i never got to experience them.

Hmmmmmm, Two days later after getting my MRA license i still smell the fondness of U4 and U4.1.

Looks like my new additions will be...

1) Race skins...
2) Power commander mapped with the new U4.1
3) Michelin Pilots
4) Timming/Stator skid covers

Only one guy slid off the track in our group of peeps.Wasn't hurt, but the bike sure got scrapped and needed a wash. Went back on the track there after... Another blew his clutch, drove back the teh Springs to buy another one, came back and repaired it, and missed the 7 lap race. Funny, both incidents were durring the practice lap sessions and not the 7 lap race with all the experienced/moderate and beginner classes all gridded up and racing together.

My bike is a whole new animal. Was able to get all the dampening set up on the bike correctly. Wow!!! Talking about being hooked. Finally went and purchased a GPR steering damper. Wow, Luv it!

When all teaching in the groups were completed, and it was our time to show off what we had learned and the instructors were cheering us on! All groups of this class,,, 1 being an experienced rider,,, 2 being a moderate rider, 3 being a beginner... we all got gridded up by evaluation and called by name for grid position. I started the class a beginner. Didn't want to jump ahead for the unexpected. i guess i was a little better than i had originally thought out there on the track as the instructor voiced that i should have been in the moderate class.

I was called to grid up #4,,, Second row Left as it was 3 wide and staggered., just offset from the pole rider. After everyone was gridded up, the mark was given, RPMs up, Clutched held just before launch,,, the flag dropped and launched 5th into turn #1... Holllly shite what an experience. Total to grid was about 15 riders or just better. Boom, I get passed on turn 8. held my position and then get passed on the second lap with a bad set up position getting ready for turn #5 and held there the remainder of the race. Fixated on him who came from the moderate class to our class. The fight was on and there were no one else behind. I could have passed this guy from the inside easily because his lines were shit. But then again some of mine were to. I knew he was going to take the turn wide and then crown the apex, yep, ,sure enough, if it were a little more experienced rider i may have taken the initial path and passed him, but knowing he was going to take wide and grab in the inner corner, I hit the front brake hard and ripped around the turn. I ran off the road into the gravel once, but balanced the bike right back on the track with out another bike in sight just after the button hook which I believe is turn #7. Turn #9 my rear tire hit something slick and kicked a little out from me, but I managed to kick my foot down and gain quick control and back on the throttle setting my self up for turn #10. Turn #10 is kind of shitty, because it is very slick! Once you get out of turn #10 it's BALLS OUT down the straight away at 160 mph, the braking hard for turn #1 doing 80mph. Wow, never thought I'd do that. Or atleast tried to imagine taking a turn at that mph. It was hard to imagine, but the funny thing is, you just do it without even realizing it.

PMI is a fun course! Now that I am official! RMA # 707! (I was hoping for a good number), That's a good number!
Flight ready for Departure from PMI! Sorry, this is a one passenger flight!:flipoff2:
I plan on taking practice day at PMI on the 27th and working the race as a corner marshel for the 1st race of the season on the 28th. I figure this will be a great expereince to work a race and to evaluate the racers in the corner I will marshel. Good learning experience when I run in the Novice GTO classes.

Some pics to come,,,

Corner working SUCKS!!!! I did that after my big wreck since I couldn't get the ok to race I figured heck yeah why not, STAY INVOLVED!! yeah right second race of the day my buddy low sides in my assigned turn and I really trully thought about taking his bike and showing him how a real racer took that particular turn only to have the lead marshall tell me I can't do that so that was the last time I did it!
