Does anyone remember these? Just thought I would throw that out there, get some conversation going, yadda yadda yadda. How tall some of these cars were, the cruising down 16th st. (Of course the race onto I-25 from 16th st!) Days that are long gone, except that I am building a car right out of that era. A 1965 Chevy Chevelle.

I took the driving test for my first driver's license in my older brother's car. It was a late 60's or early 70's Roadrunner with a hemi and manual brakes and steering. Amazingly I passed. ;)

I've owned a bunch of muscle cars and street rods since then. My favorite is probably the '66 GTO I had with a 389 and tri-power. That was a fun car. :)

I went to High School here in Colorado.

Crusing back then was on West Colfax near Golden then when the heat was too much it moved to South Broadway and later for a year or two on South Federal with a little on 38th.

We did a lot of cruising in the early 80s. I never got busted for Drag Racing but some of my friends did.

What are you planning with the Chevy? I am not sure what you mean by tall?

By tall I mean suspension height. To get the old tires to hook up, you had to jack up the front end to get good weight transfer to the rear end. That was the only way to get those hard compound tires to bite.

So far: ~500 hp sbc, muncie 4 spd (planning on rebuild with rockcrusher gears), GM 12-bolt rear with 4.88 gears (planning for a powertrax locker), 3/4 ton truck springs out back (possible rear suspension redo), 28" tall Mickey Thompson's out back, TRUE drop spindles ( by true I mean that the wheel mounting location on the spindle was dropped) 5 1/2", raises front end that much, we actually had to take two spindles per side and cut them in half and weld them together, Ansen Sprint Mag wheels (not aluminum, actually magnesium!), Leather interior and planning to upholster the trunk the same way, and of course, a paint job!

Cool definately old school but with leather. What kind of induction are you planning. Carb? FI? I have not heard the words Mucncie Rock Crusher in awhile.

My 49 Ford project is going to be a FI 5.0 with C4 and a 8.8 running LSD out of an Explorer. I really want to do a 4 link rear and may do a D44A out of a Grand Cherokee to make things simple for the 4 link. Otherwise the 8.8 will be set up with leafs and some kind of anti wrap bars kind of like lower control arms. Up front I am doing the bread and butter Mustang II set up. I am planning a Rat Rod look with modern drive train.

I really want to run a 4.6 4V Mod motor but do not want to spend the money on that. Maybe someday.

The leather interior was actually done in the seventies.

I have a single plane Victor Jr. intake on it, with a 750 cfm double pumper carb, and no choke housing.

West Colfax and Main street in Longmont is what I remember. Lots of fun times, lots of races. I wonder how much money I spent in tires!!

I had a '68 SS Chevelle at the time. I ended up selling it in college since I was so broke, I regret that every day now!!!
