Anybody else see Pinks last night where the host guy hopped on a bike and almost instantly went down? I did a similar thing once but not in front of a huge crowd.

Nope. I would have liked to watch him bite it.. I can't watch that show because of him. Watched one show and that's all it took for me to want him SHOT IN THE FACE!

Well, I don't want to be a dick, but wound debridement and cleaning isn't really easy to do through clothing.
So, not being a bike rider, why did this happen?
PS My first time on a bike, a car pulled out in front of me on a residential street and I panicked and put her down, so I know the feeling.

Not showing enough respect to the power of the bike under you. Grabbing a wristful of throttle is never a good idea if you aren't ready for it.
As far as the shirt removeal...Mr. Macho...his injury was to his hand...

Um, respect - gotcha. So, not enough weight over the front wheel for, essentially, a hole shot? What actually caused the speed wobble - is that what happens when you don't position yourself correctly? I've jumped on alot of throttles before and not experienced this type of wobble and subsequent throw.

He probably never rode that bike before and didn't realize how touchy the throttle was.

From the looks of it its a late model GSXR. Im willing to bet its a 1000cc engine too, cant tell from the video, no good shots of the bike. He was turning and leaned over, cracked the throttle WO, broke the contact patch, didnt know how to recover and put it down. It wasnt the fact that the front wheel was too light, it was that the rear tire was pushed betond its traction limits by his ego. It was stupid stupid stupid. You cant crack the throttle that hard in a turn, especially sitting upright. If he had been hanging off the side of the bike and intended to make a sharp turn at speed and not just go straight, he might have pulled it off. And with a bike putting 160+ hp down that weighs about 360 lbs, if you dont respect it it will grind you into a pulp. If he wanted to goose it and go fast off the line, he should have made sure he was upright first. Now if I recall, he wrecked a Yamaha R1 a while back on another episode or a different show, but it was the same guy. I cant seem to find the video for it, but it was on a circle track somewhere and he went to take a lap and put it down in one of the turns

Yeah pretty much even though a lot of these new 1000cc bikes have tires in the 140-160 range (pretty much close to a stock SUV tire in width) the rediculous power and mind-bogglingly low weight means they lose static friction with the ground pretty easily if you gun it right out of a turn.
Never had that problem on my old 600 with 120's but that's 75hp compared with 120+

Is that guy the same clown who does "future weapons"? I hate that guy, or those guys and think they should be banned from tv for ruining otherwise pretty decent shows.

Their a bit bigger than 140-160...
My 600RR, stock off the showroom floor came with a 180, and most 1000cc bikes are in the 190-200 range. Most front tires on todays sport bikes are as wide as older sport bikes rears were!
Whats even worse is that stock 600cc sport bikes are rapidly approaching 120 HP where as i dont think theres a liter bike out there that doesnt make at least 150!! I think theres going to come a time where we see 600 and 1000s putting out nearly identical HP numbers...only difference will be the much more massive amounts of torque the larger displacement makes.

I thought it was an R1. It's ON DEMAND right now. I actually felt bad for the guy. I feel worse for who ever owns the bike! I love PINKS though.

Always, always, always, be going in a straight line when you want to play w/ an unfamiliar bike.. If you listen to the video, he just dropped the clutch.. Dropped the clutch, leaned over, sitting straight up, 10ft in front of a tractor..

If you actually watch the show and not the youtube vid, you can see a quick shot of the left side and the gsxr emblem. Plus its a single centered headlight. R1s have dual headlights. Im still not sure if it was a 600,750,or 1000. Its pretty difficult to tell, but its definately a gsxr.
Most 600s come with 170-180 section rear tires now and 1Ks are anywhere from 190-220 stock, but some put 300s on.

Ok, let me rephrase that...
Not on a sportbike that actually gets ridden like a sportbike...not a fast and the furious cruiser... :flipoff2:

Agreed. Im not into the straight-line-I-can't-turn scene. Personally I like the twisties.

guys I agree with most your posts about the host and even over powering his contact patch but I actually think he hit it while the rear tire was on some dirt or water(he was on the return road). If you listen to the vid he really didn't give it that much wrist and anyone who has done the same thing (and I have) trust me your simply along for the ride!!

possibly hit something, but thats something you look for before you goose the throttle on a bike like that-cold tires and all. He is a moron though- but they more than likely tell him daily to make it more dramatic. If they really did just races, the show would be over in 10 minutes.
