anyone know of any by chance?

dragonman in the springs has been suggested but it looks like I'd be stuck on the 25yd pistol range and that isn't much fun.

Depends on what you're looking to do. If you're just wanting to "spray lead downrange", don't know if there's an organized range that will allow that. If you're looking for something that allows rapid fire WITH CONTROL, then there's a few ranges around you could look into. Ben Lomond and Isaac Walton are a couple.

Just looking for something interesting. I don't want to punch 500 holes in a paper target @ 25 yards all day.

Back in the day (80's) we used to take the old man's MP5 out to the dump lol.

I'll check into those, thanks for the leads. No worries I've got the ROF down to about 650RPM from 1200 so it's pretty controllable.

oh man, this is music to my ears!

This area contains 8 fully bermed ranges to support not only the informal pistol shooter, but also practical combat Pistol,

exactly what I've been looking for.

I shoot my M16 at Ben Lomond but the range is snowed in right now. They are working on getting it plowed but it could be a while before we have access again.

In May there is a big machinegun shoot in Cheyenne Wells, CO....and you can shoot whatever you want there. You can pay for a space on the firing line and shoot your own weapons or rent machineguns from dealers or individuals. Targets from 100 yards to over a mile......and much more. :D

Think you really ought to check this out (http://www.colorado4x4.org/vbb/showpost.php?p=680602&postcount=30). Follow the links in the post and make note of the Rampart Range area in the Pike NF. It is map, or Exhibit "O (http://www.fs.fed.us/r2/psicc/publications/orders/ufc_01_06_maps/O_SouthPlatteRD.pdf)" in the documents.

This pertains to Order No. UFC-01-06 and the order is in effect from January 1, 2007 until January 1, 2009 or until rescinded, whichever occurs first. Violations of these prohibitions are punishable by a fine of not more than $5,000 for an individual or $10,000 for an organization, or imprisonment for not more than 6 months, or both. (16 USC 551 and 18 USC 3559 and 3571).

Hey Rott, how do you like Ben Lomond? I haven't had the opportunity to get out there yet, however did join last month anyway. Looking forward to a break in the weather in order to get out.

Ben Lomond is a nice range. Since it's private and quite a ways out of town, you normally don't have too many people out there. I joined since it was Class III and .50 BMG friendly. It's pretty cool that they even have cowboy action and archery specific ranges too.

The rifle range is unusual in it's current configuration. If you are shooting from 200 yards, nobody can shoot from further than that (300, 400 or 500 yard benches). The club realizes this is a problem and a new 1000 yard rifle range is in the works and will resolve this issue.

The range is constantly growing and evolving in a positive way. I hope they get the snow cleared soon so I can test some new toys before the Cheyenne wells shoot. :D

Hey, another rock machine gunner, neato.

You go to the franktown meetings? Maybe I'll pop in this month and get the ball rolling on a membership. Since I moved to CO I have not been shooting enough to justify it and have been going to cherry creek. Ugh.

I may have to go to the meet just for this

Shoot at flying model airplanes and moving cars.

need to get some drums and tracers first lol.

No surprise here. Would not want to police all my brass from NF land, easier at a range usually, and don't really like shooting in that type of environment.

I've been pretting bad about making it to the meetings but I'm planning on attending this month's Franktown meeting.

It's not the brass they are concerned with, it's 'safety', so they say.

If you look at the maps, the areas are specific, but, I can see a trend with the forest service in not allowing any shooting statewide. One guy from Philadelphia who was at the Pike, San Isabel meeting last week, mentioned there is no shooting in the NF's back east except for hunting. Not sure if that is true or not?

But, if some people have it their way, we could no longer shoot or 4x4 in the NF's.

I shoot a lot in the NF and have a few uncrowded places where I can get good 400 to 600 yd rifle rounds off into a hillside. Also have a few places I go to and shoot pistols and even visit some close shooting area. But unless it is during the week, I don't go to the close areas because of the other shooters that go there. I'd just rather shoot alone and enjoy the time out.

I'm sure you've seen the "no shooting except in the lawful pursuit of animals" sign posted off the side of the drakan road trail?

I can understand it up there because of the proximity to town and the volume of people in and out of there, but I'm sure it's coming everywhere soon.

I haven't been there in a lot of years. I looked at the forest service map posted in the link "O" (http://www.fs.fed.us/r2/psicc/publications/orders/ufc_01_06_maps/O_SouthPlatteRD.pdf) and am thinking that is in the new no shooting area. It's hard to tell from the on line map as it is piss poor quality and I can't pinpoint Drakan road on it or even see Devils head. I can pick out Perry Park but Wolfensburger Road isn't shown where it comes into Perry Park.

I'd have to pull my own maps later and take a look, I don't have them handy. If you are familiar with the area, take a look at the map on line. If the trail where you're mentioning the sign is in the NF, that is a new no shooting area, effective 1-1-2007.

it sure is, the sign has been up since at least last summer.
