Anyone running this setup?
I was a little pissed after spending over $300 last year at this time for a 7800GT and then finding out that nvidia stopped producing it just 6 months after that!
Well, I didn't want go blow another 3 bills for a better one for the same thing to happen so I went and found the same card for about $150 on eBay.
I have set them up in SLi mode now and was wondering if anyone else has done this yet.
I haven't really noticed any difference in the games I've been playing. BF2, BF2142, NBA 07, & Tiger Woods 07.
I'd like to get a more memory intensive game to really see the advantage of doing this.
I guess I could re-load Oblivion again and possibly see the advantage.
The part I didn't like was I wanted to be able to use 2 monitors at the same time while playing a game and in SLi mode......but that's a no go.

I have the same card. Haven't gone SLI yet (probably won't). Try setting everything on high res and try adding AA and FSA.

Everything is on the highest setting possible.

If I understand correctly, the game itself needs to support this, not just your hardware...
and I don't know of any games that do...
does anyone?

Well basically, I wanted to be able to play the game on one monitor and see Xfire, vent, the net, or whatever else I wanted on the other without leaving the game.......does that make sense?

sure it does, and I'm sure you're not alone in wanting that.
here's what I make of it... the games tell windows on launch, "I'm taking the whole (primary) display now"... and any other screens will go blank, since there is no video being drawn up for it, any more, until the game stops taking the "primary" display.
Even if windows would keep drawing the desktop and other programs on secondary displays, I don't think "focus" or control could be acheived, since the game is the "focus", or the foreground window over on the other display.
Most likely the simplest solution might be... you guessed it, another computer.
hmmm..
I need a beer...:D

I will help you joker just make sure both monitors are plugged into the same card we can hook up this weekend

thats what I was thinking, with the foreground window statement.
well, thats cool it can be done, I tried it once awhile ago, and the secondary always went blank on game launch. whats the secret?

You have to make sure you are using the second monitor in extended mode, not streched across both as one monitor Did that make sence??? if you strech it it will shut down the second

Yes I am. I run dual 7600gt cards

Just out of curiousity what brand and version card did you buy originally?
www.newegg.com (http://www.newegg.com) still carries a few 7800gt cards.
The part I didn't like was I wanted to be able to use 2 monitors at the same time while playing a game and in SLi mode......but that's a no go.Do you mean both monitors with the game on it in a super wide screen type of thing or your game on 1 screen while your desktop is on the other? Cause you supposed to be able to have your game on 1 screen and your desktop stuff on the other so you can IM or surf the internet or check email. I've only seen some flight simulators be able to recognise more then 1 monitor for game play. I've never seen games like BF2 or BF2142 play on both screens. game just doesn't have a resolution option for this.

Look for the Nvidia icon in your system tray, right click that and choose NVIDIA control panel. A window should pop up with an option saying DISPLAY, click that and follow the directions to set up multiple monitors. It's very easy.

I have it all set up the right way I believe. When I set it yo SLI it actually says that one monitor will turn off. Says the same thing at nvidia's SLI Zone.
I just thought there was a way around it.

If you didnt notice any change in graphics from being in SLI then why not just take it out of SLI mode and run the 2 cards seperately one for each monitor and then you will be able to do what you want. I tried finding a work around to do the same thing you are referring to and never could find one.
