Ive got an older Beretta auto that I hunt with and functionally it is perfect.. It isnt much to look at and could use a good refinish.. The barrel is steel (obviously) and has a bit of rust here and there.. The receiver is alloy and I think it is powdercoated.. The wood is in OK shape, but could stand to be redone.. Lemme know if anyone here can handle something like this.. Would be willing to trade for welding/fab work as well..

I don't even pretend to be a smith, but I do have an opinion on your problem.

Since you hunt with the gun, do you really want to spend too much time making it pretty? If it were me, I would take care of the barrel (or replace it) and then just make sure the rest of the gun is functional and safe.

For the barrel, I know there are some good reblueing products out there that are very simple to use. Cabela's sells barrels for most popular shotguns. They aren't all that expensive. They sell stocks as well. Though mounting the reciever to the stock might be tricky.

Try using Moly Resin. It's cheap. Prep the metal parts with glass bead blasting or fine steel wool, then degrease. Spray on the Moly Resin with an airbrush or small cup gun. When it dries put it in your oven for an hour to cure.

I've done a Remington 1100, Browning rifle, AR carbine, and a 1911. You can even get it in different colors like SOCOM (matte) black, glossy black, OD green, desert tan, and gray.

Search for it on AR15.com to get more opinions and examples.
