Been scouting around for what I want my next bigger bike to be (600-750 range) and really like the looks of my friends Triumph TT 600.
What can y'all tell me about Triumphs? Anyone here ride one and can give some perspective on them?

Don't buy an old Triumph unless you want to become a certified motorcycle electrician. The new ones you are looking at are very nice bikes and I have not worked on one but, have heard good things about them as far as quality.

Yeah, the next bike I buy will be, probably, '01 or newer. Some of the older CBR600s that I have seen have been in great condition so that *might* be a possibility, but more than liely will be buying newer.

Tiff....just call your insurance guy and see what they'll charge you for one.
I know when I was looking for a Ducati the insurance was sorta crazy.

Twin Peaks Powersports (Highway 66/I25 longmont) used to be the only triumph dealer around, they stopped carrying them because of poor sales though. Give them a call they might be able to give you some info, and every once and a while they have a used one

My buddy with the TT600 works at Erico Motorsports, all they sell are Triumphs, Ducatis and Aprillas.
I don't want a sales squid telling me about the bike...I want user feedback. My buddy loves his, but he is rather biased :)

Triumph bought my ex wifes Speed 4 back from us because it launched a motor and they coudn't get it back together in a reasonable amount of time.
The first time they sent a head it would not fit and the next time there was something else wrong with it. It went on for 4 months before they took care of it.
The bike was never mistreated and one day started BLOWING smoke. Also Foothills BMW near 6th and Wads is a dealer.
I liked some of the things about the bike but have heard a few too many horror stories,,,, but don't let that stop you from getting a bike that's different. There's a lemon in every brand.
I'm glad they owned up and paid her full price for the bike and accessory it had on it. The speed 4's you can buy extra little fairings and they paid her for those items in the buy back....

What are you looking for in a sportbike?
I liked the TT as well when I first was shopping.
Here are some things to consider:

My three biggest concerns were:
1) Price
2) Weight
3) Reliability
I went with this instead. There are alot of people who bash Suzuki .... I have no idea why .... I've had two GSXR's a 600 ...then this 750. Both have performed beautifully ...and ZERO maintenance issues. I think the biggest reason is because they produce ALOT of bikes ...so you see them everywhere. If you want to be exclusive though, just paint it different ...I wouldn't go with another brand just for exclusivity.

I have a couple friends with newer triumphs. I would buy one in a heart beat. But I love the old Honda's from the 70's :)
I ride a 75 Goldwing now. working on a 76-77 CB750 Super Sport. Just getting ready to get a 79 Wing.

I rode a couple at a dealer open house this fall.
The new Speed Triple is great. But not what you are looking for.
I would definatly suggest a ride on the new 675! Very light and small feeling. I would love to throw that thing around some curves in the rockies!!

There's a really cool dealer just north of downtown. I can't remember the name. It's sort of in the warehouse district just north of downtown Denver. It looks small from the street but is huge inside. I always liked the Speed Triple but I'll admit-I don't know much about them. I just like the Streetfighter look.

the Fonz rode a triumph, so if you get one, you can jump buckets of sharks and stuff. my dad rides triumphs, has since he was in high school, all his old ones got stolen, now he has a mid 70s bonneville and an 02(?) bonneville, they look the same, but the 02 has electric start, he needs it with his knees

Put the bike away for the winter??? I'm unfamiliar with this concept...
No ice on the road, get out there and ride!
As far as older trumpets go, I know they've had their electrical issues. I blew the computer up on my 2005 Sprint ST, so I'm not convinced they've exercised all of these demons yet.
My suggestion: if you decide to go Triumph, buy new cause the fix on that computer was almost 2K, but since Triumph has a 2 year warranty as opposed to the 1 year the big 4 offer, it didn't cost me a thing.

No doubt, there were several days I was pissed I wasn;t riding.
It's not so buried in the garage that I can't pull it out and hit the road without too much effort.
I was talking to my friend and he turned me on to a couple of older Katanas and CBRs that his shop has...cheap and low miles....may be the way to go.

I have a'95 Triumph speed triple with 93K on it and don't really plan on ever replacing it. I do most of the very little work needed on it and have nothing but praise for every aspect of it. I would own another one in a heartbeat. The only real thing to think about is dealer support. Can't just take this to any one to work on.

So I spent some time over at Erico...sat on the 675...No clue, but that damn bike feels HUGE!!!!!!!
I sat on it for about 20 minutes...and the ergos just did not sit well with me...I seemd to be waaaaay leaned over forward...may have to do with my height, but I was flat footed on it and it still felt huge.
:( really like the looks of it, but don't think it's the bike for me...
