Poison Spyder's custom bead locks have many innovations that insure its place as the premier rock crawling/racing inspired wheel:
*Grade 10 nickel platted 3/8" hardware
*3/4" 6061 T-6 aluminum ring
*3.5" offset
*3,200 lb. load rating
*Replaceable mounting inserts
*Bead retention ribbing
*Counter sunk mounting bolts
*Wheel is cast A356-T6 Aluminum
*Ring mounting is cast into wheel
*Inner bead reinforcement
*Wheel & ring are machine finished
*Pending D.O.T. approval
Production wheels will be available in 15", 17",18" and 20" with a myriad of lug patterns. The Spyder lock will be available to hit the rocks early 2007.

Quality is never cheap
The vavle stem has to be out of the picture.
Walker Evans has wide rings similar in opening area only, they're not bad getting to the stems.

My one complaint about aluminum rims is that when they get dinged up I feel awful because I know what I paid for 'em. Too bad you can't have sweet looks and bomb proof durability of the new finish....

Clifton,
1) Do you know what the 17" versions are going to weigh?
2) Will these be available as a double beadlock too or only as singles?
Good looking product!!!

Where is the valve stem?
It is located at the inner most position against the face of the wheel, where it is protected. However, the outer ring design does make it less accessible than a shorter traditional parameter ring.
they look expensive...
The goal was not to make them expensive, however creating a wheel at this level also will translates to them not being a bargain bead lock. Our target is to offer them at $350.00 or less. We are going to get the cost solidified over the next month. The ultimate goal is to craft a wheel that can survive our sport at its escalating level, and do it in style at a justifiable price. Additionally, there are several quality bead locks in the industry; Allied, Champion and Walkers would be my favorite. However none of them had all the attributes that I wanted in a wheel. After years of campaigning for improvements, with little advancement, I decided it was time to get proactive and build a wheel.
My one complaint about aluminum rims is that when they get dinged up I feel awful because I know what I paid for 'em. Too bad you can't have sweet looks and bomb proof durability of the new finish....
Every year I usually sand down my rings and repaint them. Unfortunately our recreation is detrimental to paint and finishes, but those trail trophys help legitimize your ride...trail credit.
1) Do you know what the 17" versions are going to weigh?
The weigh exactly 39.25 lbs. per wheel.
2) Will these be available as a double bead lock too or only as singles?
Just as a single for the first design, however we are planning a double lock for competition for next summer in the 17". Also the single lock will still retain the inner bead better than current standards with a raised inner bead retainer.
Very Nice! I think I know where my income tax refund is going. Clifton let me know if you have any 15" prototypes you might want to get rid of in the future.
We will be offering the Colorado 4X4 contingency some excellent pricing on several sets so we can complete our website and catalog at the first of the year. I will of course post it right here, so please respond to us then and we would be privileged to work with you on them.
Saaaweeeet fortunately or unfortunately(depending on how you want to look at it ) I already have my bead locks.
I hope they serve you well, maybe Rock kitty could use some new style?
Thank you for your interest and inquiries, Clifton

March is a very realistic date for availability. Pricing escalates by wheel size, however 15" and 17" will be around $350.00 each. 18" and 20" will carry additional value.

I had not forgotten, I will call you when they are ready.
What back spacing on a 5 on 5.5 x17?
All of the wheels are built at 3.5" back spacing, and the width of the 17" wheels is 9".

Are you going be able to get enough torque on the allen heads without risking rounding them out? Also, any lock washers included for the hardware or should locktite be used?
Thanks

Assuming the hardware they're using is standard-dimension stuff, 3/8" socket head cap screws have a 5/16" Allen recess.
I count 24 bolts in the pics.
From that, chances are, torque specs are probably in the sub-20-ft-lb range; stripping a 5/16" Allen recess will take a whole lot more than that.
Knowing the assortment of machine-related stuff we've got around the shop that gets wrenched on a fair bit more often than beadlocks do, that has that size of fastener on it, I'd say the chances of having a problem with the Allen heads, are pretty slim.

My Champion beadlocks have 24 bolts and the spec torque is only 15lbs.

question: Can you balance beadlocks? ie* you daily drive your jeep.
That depends on the inner diameter of the rings. I have Walker Evans and they originally came with the wide rings at 9.5" dia. and I couldn't find a place where it would fit on a machine and finally found Big O could do it but it wasn't on a Road Force Machine. It still drove like crap and had serious shakes. I found someone to trade me even for smaller rings and got them rebalanced on the RF and 90% of the problems went away so something to keep in mind.

How big of tire are you running and what kind of vehicle? curious about mounting/balancing these spyderlocks or some walker evans beadlocks on 40x13.50x17" MTRS for an 05 Unlimited
35" MTR's. I've got a Budd who has 37"s with good results too but 40's might be another story! If not Centramatics are a great choice and help a ton. We both mounted them ourselves by mounting the rim on the jeep then spraying windex on the rim then just twisting the tire on. We pulled them off the jeep and set the assembly on a 5 gal bucket and installed the rings.

We used the new spyder locks at the first XRRA event in Moab. These beadlocks are by far the best on the market. We hammered them and they held up to our abuse. No other Wheel that we have ever used held up like the spyderlocks have. We slammed into some rocks hard enough to jar my teeth, before when we did this we always either bent or broke a wheel.
Clifton and the crew at Poision spyder customs our hats are off to you for building a wheel that can handle the abuse that the XRRA dishes out.

I chitchatted a bit with Clifton at the XRRA race a couple weeks ago; my understanding is that some sizes are good to go, but they're having some manufacturing snafu's with some sizes (seems to be the more popular sizes, are the ones that they're having trouble with) too. They sound like a killer wheel, just a struggle to get all the ducks in line, so to speak.

Aaron and I have been beating on our set all XRRA season and quite a few trail rides as well. At the last rock race I hit a rock so hard with one front wheel that is brought the car to a stop:eek:
The rings have a bit of rockrash now, which is to be expected the way we are using them, but they are taking everything we can through at them and coming back for more.
I've also got a set on order for my TJ, it really doesn't matter to me how long they take because I know that they are the last set I'll need.
