Is there a FAQ somewhere, that explains the proper steps to take if any of us happen to wittness unlawful environmental damage being caused while we are out on the trail?

Would it vary from County to County, State to State, or even BLM -vs- National Forrest Land -vs- State owned land?

I got to thinking about this lately, especially with many of the comments made in thread I started about fear of posting on here, that I really don't know what I am supposed to do if I wittness somebody causing unlawful damage.

The process I've used in the past is (if avail.) take picture of said abuse and write down full description of vehicle and drivers, plate numbers of course. Second supply info and pictures to local sherrif and BLM offices. If act took place in National Forrest the repercusions could be severe.

<edit>
I'm not sure if the sherrif's would have JD in a National Forrest but they would investigate and pass on prudent info to correct authorties.
