For 2005 Nissan redesigned the Xterra

Time to get the X on the lift and start gutting. The tire location and height from the lift is an estimate of ride height.

The spring perches on the ford 9" matched up to the nissan springs in the rear. Things could not have gone smoother. Lets hope it stays this way.

I always appreciate it when people cut up something so new. :D

Good axle choice.

Looks like it is going to be a sweet ride. I second the takes balls to cut on a new truck, good work.

Just curious, using a front 44 out of the Bronco with the cast arm mounts... Are you going to be wide enough to get to the radius arm mounts on the axle or are you going to weld on new mounts?

Wow! The front axle looks great now that it's been redone. My claim to fame for this project is I helped drag it out of the pick-n-pull on a dolly. I definately want to be at the unveiling party!

Cutting up new stuff is almost as cool as cutting up classic stuff!

Wow, looks good! Are X-terra's unibody?

JKTODD
March 28th, 2006, 08:01 AM
No, they have a frame under them. The Xterra's are a great vehicle. The new ones come stock with 265 horsepower. You can free up a few more ponies with simple bolt ons as well. With a SAS I think they make great Safari Expedition type vehicles. Even better than my beloved XJ.

I think Bob and I have the same pics, but I have some as well. Turned out great. Been driving it for a year no problems. I haven't wheeled it becuase of T-case issues. But that should be solved in a week or so.

Gotcha. We took the stock ones and sleeved them and threw Johhny Joints on the end.

Have him check out the CAGE OFFROAD radius arms instead. Much nicer design than the Duff ones.

Ah, the difference between a kit and the very first time anyone has even attempted this modification on the new models

jkskier
April 6th, 2006, 10:44 AM
Actually, the CAGE arms were designed by the same guy who designed the Duff arms. CAGE arms are a better/later/improved model but still not night and day from the Duff arms. I think either choice will be a good one.

Alpine's appears to be a bolt on kit. This one looks to have some actual fabrication involved.

Yeah-plus the rear axle is being changed.

Alpine Spirit
April 6th, 2006, 10:00 PM
Yeah mine was primarily bolt on so not alot of custom stuff.

They are having to redo everything from the Transfer Case out including a whole new steering setup.

cheftyler
April 28th, 2006, 02:45 PM
So it should be on rubber by the end of the day.
We were up there today when the drive shafts came in, so it won't be long!

The 2005 Xterra SAS is complete!

There is still a few bugs to work out, but I am pretty happy with the result. The front will be higher than the rear until I see how the coils sag.

I knew a kid that SAS'd his Xterra, I think it was like a 2001, they look pretty mean after gettin a solid axle!

Do you mind telling us how much the swap such as this cost? Also, how did this affect your stock traction control devices such as ABS, downhill descent, traction control?

cheftyler
May 4th, 2006, 09:16 PM
Cost...you'd have to ask All Phase for a quote (and Dave, I did mention you guys in the very first post :P )

Traction control, ABS, speedo, etc...all lost with the removal of stock axels...the new generations of Xterras use tone rings @ each wheel to determine how fast each one is going, so until a new tone ring is made, no chance of ABS, etc...from the last conversations I've been hearing there is going to be one tone ring made and all the sensors tied into the one ring...so no ABS, Traction control, etc...as the vehicle will have only one tone ring...but he'll get his speedo back :D

Held up Great... no issues what so ever.

No Binding, nothing came loose, it is all very tight. Well there is some minor rubbing in the rear wheel well on the drivers side... easy fix.

That X is sweet! One question: Was the oil pan issue b/c the pumpkin cam up and hit it? The pic from that angle just looks like it sits right over the pan and i was just wondering. Looks gigidy good! I'm liking the stuff coming out of all phase.

cheftyler
