Jeff, let just say i beat your nose stand on firemans(ill let dean elaborate more with his pics)!!

What an awesome trail...never ran it before, but went out with a few members from the board and some of the Rough Country 4wheel guys. Had a total blast despite pretty much destroying my poor jeep. Twisted the front bumper, ripped off my front licence plate, ripped off the front bumper corner, smashed in part of the roof(nosestand into a tree.....), taco'ed part of my sliders, ripped off my driver side mirror, busted out a tail light, was almost killed by a flying hi-lift among other items inside my jeep.......just some of the CARNAGE.... :D

Still had fun though....nice meeting all the new faces! Im workin on the pics but will have them up sometime tonight.....

Holy Endo Batman!!! Looks you boys had fun today... Now I know why I love my bumpers and highlift holder :D

Glad everyone still made it out in one piece too...

Did ya make it up the waterfall Dean?

Jeffro600
March 19th, 2006, 12:20 AM
Did ya make it up the waterfall Dean?

Nobody made it up, but dean was made it the furthest....he almost was over but got hung up just a couple feet from making it and had to back down.

Im not really sure if a stinger bumper would have saved me in this case....if anything, i think it would have layed me on my side which could have been REALLY ugly as it was a steep hill and i probably would have rolled all the way down....but a hi-lift holder is DEFINETLY in the works. I had all my junk strapped down in the back and when it slammed on the tree my tiedown point broke and everything went flyin. I thought the tiedown originally broke, but upon further examination, i found the eyelet of the tiedown point still attatched to the tiedown where it had ripped out of the floor. Having 200 pounds of junk coming flying at you while your doing a nosedive isnt exactly my idea of fun! :D

I wont be going down that again ANYTIME soon....i would probably try it going up though! :D

Wild Hare
March 19th, 2006, 11:44 AM
thats freekin tuff to go up it. with all the dirt and mud and that last ledge is high. that buggy that came up after us had a hard time making it.

Jeffro600
March 19th, 2006, 11:46 AM
I didnt even notice the buggy goin up.....but it was still pretty wet and loose too. Probably wouldnt be too bad except for that wall-like part if it was dry in the summertime.

Well hopefully you get it fixed... if it was not for that tree things could have been MUCH worse.

OH and AWESOME PICS!@!!!@!!

Explorerguy
March 19th, 2006, 12:22 PM
So what is making everyone do the nose sniff? Is it because of how steep it is or just the angle people are taking???? Doesn't look like having a long wheel base will help you much there.

Jeffro600
March 19th, 2006, 12:25 PM

Its pretty off-camber and really steep....you cant really tell from the pics so much, but theres a big hole where my driverside tire was and i fell into it making me roll torwards the hill into the tree. That spots no joke!!

Wild Hare
March 19th, 2006, 12:27 PM
if you stay too far to the left when goin down you are in a left hand turn and the weight transfer causes a full lock left and it causes that. if you take a straight approach it doesn't happen.

seems to be a popular spot to do that, my buddy did that 4 years ago but his bumper or tree didnt stop him we estimated about 8-9 rolls and the jeep landed right side up. only problem was the the transmission was in the back seat. we had to rush him to the hospital, not easy to do when your in 4 lo. we went back the next day and his jeep was completely stripped. Although we did get his sub box back, we found it about 400ft down the hill. He tore all the ligaments in his right ankle and broke his mandible i think (the bone between your nose and upper lip).

Nice to know, even on a remote trail there is always someone there to steal your shit.

I'm really itching to try that climb but the idea of rolling my DD down the hill had been holding me back and my 82 is far from trail ready. Is there a legal bypass for that part of the trail?

Its definetly not a place you want to leave your stuff unattended for any period of time....

There are bypasses for all the difficult obsticles....the only one that there wasnt was the off-camber, snowy section which got a little interesting....but it should be melted off here in the coming weeks i would expect as it warms up.

We were running Carnage when these guys were coming down from the Firehole after the nose dive. I was able climb the Firehole, but it required second gear and some serious RPMs from my fire breathing 401. Kelle was behind me with his 350 powered buggy and experienced the same thing, as did Kevin with his 401. This was by far the most diffcult time I've had climbing that obstacle. It seems to be getting quite nasty!

That spot is just a little bit down the hill from where I rolled my XJ. I was going sideways across the top of that hill from the bypass trail. After we got it flipped back over, I had to drive down that hill in the same direction you were going and it felt like I was real close to doing a nose stand, now that I see yours, I feel lucky I didn't roll it twice that day.

Hope everything comes out o/k for you!

Cool acrobats Jeff! That would have been wild to see in person. As if your numerous posts on here aren't enough... you had to go showing off. ;) Dean came by Bob's shop and showed the pics, and the vid of the XJ coming back down. Crazy stuff! Too bad Dean wasn't behind ya. Then we'd have vid footage of the entire action. I'm gonna get a rack to secure all my stuff too. Wheeling's all cool, until someone gets a hi-lift in the back 'o the head. Glad you escaped unharmed (except for the throbbing forearms and brake foot). Also glad you were alone in the Jeep. Gonna try and tweek the roof and door back out? Time to go topless!!!

It was a learning experience for sure! Ill probably pop the dents out as best i can later this week once it warms up....steering needs some attention too as i was getting a REALLY nasty popping/banging noise out of it on the way back home...im hoping its just the trackbar coming loose. Id like to cut the roof off and cage it, but i still want something thats comfortable to drive in the winter time....might do a mild exo-cage around the roof though. I think the scariest part was it actually getting pulled back down...i was just sittin there clenchin my cheeks prayin to god it didnt roll over on its side! :D
