Solid Axle Swap - SAS

OK for the last couple of months I have been buying up parts and reading on other projects well it is nearly time to cut all the IFS off the front and put a D44 underneath.

So next week starting Tuesday AM I will be cutting all of this off.

I will be replacing it with a D44 from a 88 Wagoneer, 5.13 gears Front, Fox Coil Overs, Springs, HD Drag Link, Extended braided Brake lines

The rear will also get new gears (5.14, nissan axle) and a new custom leaf pack, extended braided brake line.

2 new drive shafts front and rear

As soon as I start cutting I will start posting up some pics and such.

Hope to have it done Thursday, but I bet Friday.

Whenever your done let me know. I wheel at lefthand/carnage fairly often (live nearby) and I have a SAS pathfinder.

I'm guessing your using the calmini kit. Would have been great to have something like that available to me when I did mine. I still haven't seen one of their kits in person, so I'd love to see your rig when its done.

Cool... I will actually be down your way at All Phase in Longmont from Wednesday on (delayed a day). Yeah I am using the Basic Calmini Kit.

Sounds good, there may be a carnage run thursday afternoon with some of the guys from the other nissan boards, if you are done by then. The grinding and cleaning up the frame is the only real time consuming hard part, the rest of it is pretty easy.

I like how they engineered the upper coilover/ track bar mounts to attach in the old upper control arm brackets. The whole project is looking good! Some day I'll have all the parts to get my sas done.

Looking good Alpine! Is the truck being done at All Phase?

Yep All Phase is the shop.

90% Done....

Well basically done. Drive shaft did not make it so I will put that on Thurs or Friday after it gets shows up at the house. Tom Woods is AWESOME... to insure it is perfect they called up Nissan to get the Plate to mount to the X-Fer case. So it took couple of extra days but it will be 100 percent correct. Great Company.

We went custom drag link and Tie Rod and over the knuckle to keep the clearance below the axle. Tie Rod is .25 inch thick metal with heims. Drag link is slightly thinner metal with heims.

More Pics coming soon.

Sweet Build. Not many like it im sure.

CycleMutt just showed me the X. Very cool. Have you thought of going spring over in the rear? I know he did it on his. With that you could go up another 6-8 inches with your adjustable front. Drive shafts may be an issue.

I have thought about it. Maybe later.

Now as soon as that driveshaft shows up... Get some good offroad shots.

Is it just me or does that trac bar look like it is going to get bent the first time the axle comes up on the drivers side? Maybe not bent but at least smacked?

Im with you on everything but the revolvers.. Looks real solid though.. good job..

Drive Shaft Just showed up for the front from Tom Woods. Now to go put it on and see how it all works put together.

Todd - Wait a minute.... you said he just showed it to you? Did he run it over by you or something?
