View Full Version : North Sand Hills 2/11

February 16th, 2006, 08:28 AM
A bunch of cruiser people and Rising Sun peeps headed up to Walden/Sand dunes for an FJ Cruiser Photo Shoot event. We were basically there to watch, check it out, and help if need be. Pulling into walden it was a tropical 22 below zero...

anyways the day started out not so bueno with me. The snow was very hard and crusty...before we even got to the dunes...this occured.

Thanks to everyone that helped get her back up and going!

And thanks Root for the video of aftermath.

The snow was deep in spots, and bare in others...very cold but lots of fun to be had.

February 16th, 2006, 10:15 AM
Doh! Got any pics of the dunes? It was hella deep when we were up there last month.

February 16th, 2006, 10:20 AM
Ben!! Man I am sorry to hear about that. First your door gets peeled back at the garage and now this. Man, how'd you get it home? Very sorry to see this. What are you plans with it now. I agree with Clyde - I hope you are putting a cage in it now!

February 16th, 2006, 10:26 AM
How did you roll it Ben? Glad you are ok Man. Cages are good. Just chop the top and have a custom soft top made for it. :D

February 16th, 2006, 10:40 AM
Yeah it's fooked! lol...

yeah, it was butt cold! lol...

I don't think you could call this a "soft" roll....I mean it wasn't violent....not really even a true roll for that matter. The snow was very hard and crusty. Someplaces you could walk on it, others you fell through.

In this corner, (i feel like a boxing announcer http://forum.ih8mud.com/images/smilies/smile.gif ) there was hardpacked snow/ice. As i went through the slightly drifted snow, that was my traction....pulled me to the side...just like when you hit a puddle with one side of your vehicle and it pulls you.

Once that happenend she went into the deeper snow and the ass end started to come around...drifting style(pun intended) the weight transferred over to the passenger side...causing her to go more into the side of the road....

Well my friend Mr. Krusty Snow allowed the lighter drivers side of the vehicle to not go through as much snow, while the passenger side dug in deeper and POOF over she went.

The impact is almost all on the top/side of the roof, meaning she had some momentum and height for the first dive (the swedish judge gave a 9.9) which coincides with what the couple behind me saw. Said it went slightly airborn right before she landed.

So I can only imagine the force behind that impact...30-35mph, one heavy ass pig landing right on the top corner...the WHOLE body is shifted and bent. She is massively tweaked even tho the pics don't show it.

Insurance wise, she's fully covered. Now I have to go through that whole debacle to get value on it. Definitely a strong case for those without cages to think about getting one.

Insurance paid to get her back to Ft. Collins, the Mog416 & Brant and I picked it up.

A big thanks to the Rising Sun crew, and others. Mog416, Rockrash, Flexytoy, Brant...

Ben glad to hear you are OK!! Time to cut the top and cage it!!!

February 16th, 2006, 05:13 PM
what the hell is that big bend from? a rock? that just looks odd. good to here everything is good with you though.

February 16th, 2006, 05:34 PM
sonofmayhem - The impact sounds like it was on the top passenger corner, so it buckeled where it's the weakest. I'll bet Ben's head bounced off it. Ouch!!

On the whole, BJ70s are kinda gay.

Except for this one:

February 24th, 2006, 08:38 AM

whats kinda gay about, factory lockers? fold down winshield? turbo diesels? full floaters, short wheel base, lwb pickups and wagons, removable tops, coils on some...hmmm Toyota's only been making these for over 25 years.

although some people don't like the looks :flipoff2:

here are some of my favorites...

Those things just dont look stable at all.

It took me alittle while to get use to them, but I`m starting to like them more.
In the frontend of them, they kinda look like an FJ40, they have some of the same lines of an Fj40.

looks kinda like an updated EB
