I met up with chris (performance metal works) in colorado springs on friday....taking the day off of work to go test the buggy.:D
I am super happy with how this thing performs. You just point it at any rock and it climbs right over. Going from an XJ on 35s to this on 40s brings out a whole new world.
Poor chris ended up breaking the long side shaft on his dana 30 when it was bound up against a ledge....3/4 of the way through the trail. I'm actually surprised that it held up as well as it did....for as long as it did. We then had to winch him out the exit of the trail....which was no easy task without all 4 tires spinning.
Had we not had that one minor problem....I think we could have spent out time playing around on the obstacles more....but it was still a really fun trip.

4cyl? haha. :flipoff2: That's a chevy 350...and the extra torque it has over the 4.0L that I'm used to driving is nice. :D
I took a slight tug from one of our tow rigs to get out. That exit is BIG.

It was on the south side of town....not far off of I25. I can't remember which exit though. It was stored at a shop that was on the other side of the train tracks....on some dirt road. How's that for a description? Sorry I don't have better info for you. I picked it up from someone on here.

Having a full bodied rig is nice for going camping...which I love to do. It's also nice to have a rig that I can drive to the trails....but it's still built enough to handle most everything.
I have no intentions of giving up on the XJ. It has been an awesome project and I still have more plans for it.

What are the spec's on it?
It is going to go through some changes here shortly, but for this trip it was running:
Turbo'd 4.0L
AW4
231 (not sure if he has 4:1, but definitely 2 lo)
dana44 rear axle, 1 linked, air shocks, detroit
dana30 front, detroit
4.88s
chopped behind front seats (used to be a 4 door)
custom cage and custom body panels
36x12.50 swampers
etc., etc. etc.

Well the buggy was at union auto over by West 29th Junk yard. I always stoped and looked at it when I would deliver parts to the shop. I am glad to see that it was painted, I did not like the pink.
Cool Video and pics.

I really like the MJ's a good bit and the XJ's. Looks like some well spent money for sure.

I heard it was a rough trip for the XJ. Chris (Performance Metal Works) is helping us with our 2006 Ranger skins for next year, top notch work. Hopefully we can get his XJ hooked up with some Dana 60 gear.

The panels that he did on his XJ are awesome. It's crazy that he was able to follow the factory step in the body for part of them and then taper it off so that he could use the same panel to wrap around the back. It's very clean work....and I'm sure he'll do the same for you guys.
He NEEDS that 60 gear. He was pretty bummed about not being able to continue wheeling. I think we were all hoping to cover more ground than we did.....no big deal though. We got his rig out of there and we all had a great day.

Did you watch the video? It did really well....even under throttle. It has worked out for him in the past....always carrying spares of course.....but it sounds like he might be going with a 60 front now. So, that's good.

Thanks for the pics and video! Next time out we will give that exit a better run. I will be on 60s next time and the front will be done to match the rear.

Fat,
Get it while you can man. You won't be seeing that stuff around the midwest when you get back. Only our the west trips :p
Nice, looked like a fun day.
