Went up to Switzerland Trail today and wanted to explore all of the off chutes of the main trail. For those that don't know it was an old railroad trail connecting Canyon/Nederland to Ward and Jamestown so the trail itself is very mild. Some of the offchutes are more moderate.

Very cool! Some of the best trails are ones you get out and go explore on foot!

Exploring all the offshoots of that trail is a lot of fun - the first trail I ever did with my stock ZJ. The first tractor in your pics is actually an old fire engine.

XLSLC - Just curious How you know that is a firetruck up there. I have been up there looking at several things several times and have always wondered what that and other things are. Just curious how you could tell and if you also knew what a lot of the other things are up there since I have been curious. Thanks!

Only thing I could find ot support the notion of it being a firetruck (which makes sense) is that the rear axle has no suspension and is beefy as hell. Front axle has leaf springs:rolleyes: Must have been a comfortable ride.
Anyone know why so many of the engines I saw up there were connected together? ie: Looks like the output shafts of two engines would be connected together?!?

they are most likely pumps for the mining operations back in the day

That makes sense, I imagine they just let the main engine turn them and let the secondary engine act as a pump...nutty.

Yeah, there is some pretty cool stuff up there. I would love to go up there with someone that knows what it all is, when it was used and what it was used for. It's fun just guessing though. Some of those mines would be really neat to see operating back in the day.
