Matt (Crazy Legs), his wife Lisa and my wife, kids, and I made the trip from Colorado Springs. jdbwrx and Guammy weren't able to make it due to the weather and road conditions. Sorry you weren't able to make it guys.
The day started kinda rough and had a slick drive up due to the early morning snow. The weather cleared up nicely after we got through Divide but looked a little ominous again the closer we got to the trail head. We met up with Ben (Silver CJ) and a joined a group from On the Rocks (a club out of Denver). This was my first time on this trail and I really had a good time. A little bit of light snow made the trail a tiny bit slick in a spot or two, but nothing that caused any real problems.
Ben suffered the first carnage of the day when his passenger side hub called it quits on the rock pile before the Waterfall/Whale Rock. He ran the rest of the trail in 3wd. Gary (On the Rocks) suffered a broken short shaft on his Rubicon and made temporary repairs at the Gunsmoke truckstop before heading home with the rest of his group. Aside from leaving some undercarriage paint here and there, no one else broke anything that I'm aware of.
All in all it was a great ride with a great group of people.
Looking forward to running this trail again...next year. I think we kinda pushed our luck making a run this late but it worked out well.
I'll get some pics posted in the morning.
Oh! Before I forget, a big thanks to Matt for spotting me when I needed it and for the info on the best lines to take to help me avoid getting stuck, damaged, or embarassed.:D
