Wheeling a "nice easy trail" was the plan, sense it was the girl friends second time driving her jeep. Get to about half way up Lefthand to where Carnage connects and there is the ditch, which can result in some pretty good flex. So I roll in flex it out, all is good. turn around to watch the GF, (does great). Go to put mine back into gear and brake falls to the floor :-0 I quickly put it back into park and get out to find my driver side flex hose has seperated from the hard line. The compression fitting where flex turns hard has broke. shiiiiiaat! shiiiiaaat! shiiiiiiaaattt! so we turn mine around and hook my tow strap to my rear and front and start our decent. 1hr 30min later we get to the bottom. Next two hours are spent trying to find a brake hose on a Sunday afternoon in boulder. (fun fun fun)
Long story short I am not to impressed with procomps steel braided lines. Oh forgot to mention the side that broke was the side that was stuffed not the side that was drooping. Just glad it let go then and not somewhere where I really needed them.

P.S. If that was your White chevy with a trailer behind it I apolagize for parking so close to it. I was going to backup and then forgot before going for parts.

Were you not able to just pinch the line off with some vice grips above the break?

Thats odd that the flexed side broke...unless maybe you broke it somewhere else and didnt notice it?? Count your blessings though...could have been ALOT worse!

It broke at the hard line. No flex to crimp. Could have bent over the hard line and crimped it but then I would be looking for one of those too. Desided limping was better. No chances that way.
And hey the GF got some experience using a tow strap.

Who's up for Carnage next Sat (29th)

I replaced it with a OEM from a YJ. Question is, Is it worth replacing it with another braided one??

It was just a bad day for Lefthand. We broke a rear shaft in a really stupid place on Carnage. Glad you got down safe.

Just a note... I had a problem just like that and I just vice'ed it.... If there is any line left you can clamp it off..... Would have got you any where you need to go..... Just something for the next time...

No line left at all the fitting where it goes from hard line to flex broke. The flexy piece was fine.

Yeah, we seen you guys up there. I thought I had seen that name on here before. I was in the red and black scout with the big buggy and the yellow blazer buggy in front of me. I almost went for a tumble in the scout up by fire mountain....
I ended up with a broken steering box, bent drive shaft, a pounding from underneath that sounds like a broken motor mount (need to check it out before I know for sure).... and a broken shock bolt.

I would say for sure yes get braided break lines. But remember any break line will come apart if its pulled to far...lol.

You have a hard line coming off the brake cylinder/booster.... Right? So you vice the hard line... A new hard ling would cost a whole $5.00? You would have had 3 brake?s?. Unless it rips out of the cylinder you have line to vice?. Yes you would have hosed a hard line but you can fix them pretty easy?.

If you're replacing, get a custom one at aai speedshop in arvada. They have some lengths already made, but if you require something else, the price isn't bad.

Yes you would have hosed a hard line but you can fix them pretty easy?.We tried this on my 05 the other week and the line would snap off every time(very brittle). They must be making shiot cheaper and cheaper.

My friend's did that in Moab when a side lug on his tire grabbed the line. We ended up crimping off the hard line and folding it over onto it's self.
