Well I went up to Wheeler Lake with the Auraria Rockcrawlin club. We had a TJ on 33s, TJ on 35s decked with PSC stuff, a stock TJ, YJ on 35s, a Cherokee on 31s and my "stock" TJ. It was my first real wheeling trip and supposedly it's a 5 to 7 trail? Anyway my TJ is awesome in stock form. I had to pick lines and stuff alot more carefully then the guys on 35s, but it still went anywhere I wanted. I only scratched the gas tank. I came down hard on one rock and took out a chunk of the rock...now that's what I'm talkin about!
Headin to the trail (~100 mile drive  )

Anyway the rest are here (http://sparkcustoms.com/100105-WheelerLake/)
I am going to clean off the Jeep tomorrow and see if I have any other damage besides a scratched gas tank skid :D All in all it was a great time!

Snow! AAK!
Great pics, thanks for sharing. Maybe you're right about the rating being too high. I think the high of 7 is pretty accurate if you take the line to the left of the "v" part (we've had a lot of issues there), but maybe it should have a low of 4...
I think I need to go through and re-rate everything at some point.

they took the hardest part of the trail out some years ago. i think thats why it seems easier. 5 would be good.

I think the trail rates a 6. A stock 4x4 can certainly make it to the lake, but it takes some finesse to get up there without body damage. Pam has her ZJ on 31's and she kissed both rockers a couple times on the way up. It's pretty smooth sailing until the trail starts heading up to the lake. The line to the left of the V is also pretty crazy too, if you go far left it's not too bad, but if you take the right side of the left line things can get interesting. I'd say 6 to 7 overall depending on lines. Of course with all of that water up there, it can change relatively quickly.

Hey thanks again for winchin him out! Your Jeep rocks :boxing:

Where'd you see us?
Yea if you go to the far left on the one part where there are three lines, it's fairly easy. I don't think I could've done the right most without a locker and some lift, but who knows?
I had to watch where I was going for the most part, but honestly I only dropped on shit under my Jeep a couple times coming back. I don't think my rockers were even close to danger!

Yea that's what I've been told. There was still an interesting ledge right around the corner there though.

Glad to see we got a some people out on the first trail run. There will definately be more to come. I would have gone but i had to study for a damn business law test and write a paper, and i broke a fiew things the other week while i was in moab and i don't think i would have had too good a time with a buggy on wheeler lake.

I am an unofficial board member (a UCD student can't be one of the members of the board for some stupid reason) but i didn't receive an e-mail either. There are over a 100 people on that list so something might have happened. We are going to get a website set up where you can get info on upcoming trail runs asap.
Does anybody know how to set up a big e-mail group. Can you use the yahoo groups to do something like this?

I'm so bummed out that I had to turn around!! I still can't figure out the problem. :(

I've had problems with sending out emails. There are so many people signed up for the mailing list that a lot of emails get rejected.
HOWEVER, as of Friday, WE HAVE A NEW WEB SITE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
http://studentactivities.mscd.edu/~rockcrawlers/
Kris put this together for us to better relay information. IT EVEN HAS A FORUM! So now emails won't get lost and everyone can keep up with up-comming events and suggest future trips.
Sorry about not getting the announcement to you.

I support the rating of a 5, that suits the trail. I took most of the hard lines that day without a problem. I must say, the stock guys that I went with did an awesome job! They weren't taking the hard lines of course but were able to make the middle lines with some good spotting and a little gas. I was the trail lead and towards the end of the trail the completly stock TJ (black) got ahead of me and I was almost not able to keep up with him. Great job guys, lets do it again soon!

Thanks for the help with the winch. I was too far ahead to winch and he didn't tell us until after he was stuck that he hadn't taken off his QUICK disconnects lol, glad you guys came down when you did. Very nice jeep!

This trail used to be a total blast before camp Jeep came along back in the early 90's. Since then the trail has gotten easier and easier every year. It used to be you couldn't make it up to the lake without lockers front and back. I loved taking my old 3/4 ton GMC with a popup camper running 36"'s up there. You wouldn't see a soul for weeks on end. Fishing was great back then!
